I was wondering if anyone has moved to aftermarket RF controlled glasses. After a year of stubborn 3D avoidance, I got my system 3D capable, spent a little time watching a 3D movie and was shocked at just how immersive it was. My HE lens however, is in the way of the internal IR emitter that bounces the IR off my screen and I constantly loose sync. It's irritating at best. I figured I'd try some of the aftermarket RF glasses. There are many to choose from, and they are kinda spendy...

I've been using these Michael, the family seems to like them and for the price I can't complain.

I'd try these, if only they folded up for storage. I need to buy a few more, currently only have 2. But I like the storage cases that I can get for the Panasonic glasses.

Hey those Oakley's look pretty sweet... Not horribly expensive either. I don't see where they are IR or RF though. I have no idea what "Real D" is..

The glasses I have been looking at are the Monster Visions, and only because they get a fair amount of praise. But MV stopped making them, and apparently, they have a large batch of out there with serious battery problems.

I think the glasses that 3D VIP sells are the same as the MV. I may give them a try. http://www.3d-vip.com

You get to pay for the brand name and something that looks cool...

First off, you need to verify compatibility, there are some glasses that don't work with all systems. I guess you could always return if they don't...

Also, in my avoidance of 3D, I still checked into it and people were saying that the most popular glasses for being able to work and work well with a multitude of systems, were frequently on sale with 1 pair of glasses AND an emitter for $50-$70. I believe that they were the MonsterMax one.

FAR from stylish like the Oakleys, and maybe something else is better for just as good of a price now since I haven't looked into this in about 9 months, but shoot... I can buy JVC glasses to go with my JVC projector (what you would THINK would be a perfect match) for $150 each, and they historically won't perform as well as the MonsterMax 3rd party ones.

The Oakley's are not a shutter glasses. I don't even know if they'd work AT ALL for displays like mine where shutter glasses are supplied.

We watched John Carter 3D last night. Pretty damn cool. No stupid stick in the eye gimmicks, just great depth of field.

AH. I assumed that they were shutter since the OP was looking for 3D RF glasses. So they are really expensive polarized glasses then. The $3 ones you get at movie theaters, whilst ugly, do the same as the $150 Oakleys. The Oakley's look better, and might even be more comfortable though.

Just sayin'.

Just got man e-mail back from Oakley and they said the Gascans are fully compatible with my 2012 Panasonic 3D tv. Whoohoo

Well if they are anything like their sunglasses, with the high definition, it will be awesome.

Seems like there are issues with the Oakleys vs. more basic ones.

Oakley Gascan 3D Glasses Review

They curve the lens which impacts focusing ability, they are also heavy on the bridge of your nose meaning that you feel that they are there more, and the lenses are smaller that the "ugly" ones, meaning that you never get fully immersed into the image.

Not that they are terrible, but just some of the trade-offs to get stylish glasses with a brand stamped on them that you will be only wearing in a dark room where nobody will really see them.

I will let you know when I get them. I didn`t go for the stylish Hobbit ones.

Amazon has the Oakleys for 120. I have a couple pairs of their sunglasses and love them. They have a unique shade of color that I can not find elsewhere.

They will not work with my projector though. I need active glasses.

Probably wouldn't work with your setup (and they aren't aftermarket) but the latest 3rd gen 2011 panasonic glasses are really comfy, work well, and don't darken then screen too much. Much better than the 2nd gen 2011 panny glasses that shipped with my 65VT30.

Unfortunately, every time I want to watch 3d I have to bypass my 3808, and then run sound from the ps3 via optical out and lose out on Dolby true hd or dts hd master audio. Plus it is a PITA to reconfigure it every time. I need to upgrade my receiver.

They are apparently the exact same glasses as the Optima BG-ZF2100GLS, but cheaper. They come with a RF emitter in the 'starter kit', and a charging cable. They are compatible with the MV glasses, as they are made by Bit Caldren. The IR input cable is for Optima and will not work with my Sony projector. I had to find a MV IR sensor to use. The MV IR sensor is just a widget that is placed near the projector's IR emitter. It then syncs to the projector IR output and sends that to the little RF emitter. Works pretty slick.

Tried them last night watching Ice Age, Continental Drift. They worked flawlessly. I gotta admit, the 3D image is pretty amazing. Better than I've ever seen before, including Disney World attractions.

It's not how I want to watch Schindler's List, but 3D can be fun with some movies!

I have 3 pairs of MV glasses to go with my Sony projector. The glasses are way more comfortable than the original Sony units and the tint are not as dark as the Sony one, so I get a brighter and nicer colour. I do have 2 extra units of the MV IR transitter too...
