The local store owner had to close shop. The next closest is about 300 miles away. I've bought from Amazon a few times, but their prices apear to have gone up. Are there any other on-line CD outlets worth a damn?

Mike,
Take a second look at Amazon. They also sell used. I have purchased 6 used over the last couple of months and the experience has been very good/CDs in great shape/saved some money.

I have saved quite a bit of money over the years through BMG. Been a 12 year member. They don't quite have the selection that Columbiahouse does, but the prices are excellent.
Did Amazon buy out CDnow? When I want to buy import CDs I can usually find them at half.com or Amazon. More expensive, but some of those import CDs are must haves.

Would disagree with ya TNT, I am a member of both BMG and Columbia House these days. In the beginning, there is no doubt Columbia was better. Now, I believe BMG has the much better selection. Though Columbia House has given much better deals lately. This is about the third time in a month I have gotten by one get four free. I really am running out of stuff to by at Columbia House. I just phoned one order in today. Amazon has a great selection also. You can find some good deals on their blowout sales for 5.99 up to 10.99. I have over 500 CD's so it's kind of hard to find good deals on stuff I don't have these days.......

I was under the impression that yourmusic.com was basically BMG. I've had a positive experience so far (2 months). $5.99 per CD, no shipping costs. The selection isn't enormous, but it's well worth checking out.

I just signed up for BMG myself. 12 cd's for the price of one is hard to beat. (Though they do charge about $2.80/cd in s&h)

I just checked the sight out. Sounds pretty straight forward. Have you tried to express ship CD's? I'm wondering if they charge you the extra charger per box or per CD? They don't specifically call that out.

I listen to Alt Rock primarily, neither BMG nor Columbia had numerous CD’s I just looked for. Amazon has them all. But, they’re about 14 bucks each, plus shipping. Folks living in Alaska get screwed with shipping charges due to no ground service. They do offer free shipping through snail male…..but that’s about a two week wait. I’m simply too impatient for that.
I just found an equ rack that I really like. Way cool looking with stainless and glass at AV123. Shipping costs are $175. So much for that.....dangit.

Second the vote for Amazon Used.
And take a look at Tower on line.
If you sign up as a registered user, they often send out special deals that are worth taking advantage of.
A couple of weeks ago they were having some good sales on some Jazz ztuff, then were offering a 3 day additional sale of 15% off for registered users, and then free shipping on top of that. And, if you bought enough, they upgraded the free shipping to 2 day FedEx.

Here's another to consider:
www.deepdiscountcd.com
I have ordered DVD's from their sister store...good prices...not real sure about the selection on the CD site though.

For Canadians, I find CD Plus a great place to order online. Their regular prices are hard to beat, they ship quickly, and for free.
