One of the best things about being a psychiatrist is that I get paid to get to know people. And help them, too, yeah, sure, OK, but it's neat to see people's personalities on display.
Along those lines, it's been cool meeting all of you guys and getting a sense of your personalities online. Nonetheless, I keep coming back.
Anyway, since we all use our computers to keep in touch, I thought it'd be cool to see if any of us have any cool wallpaper they'd like to tell us about.
I'll go first. At work, I mix up my wallpaper fairly often. Sometimes I'll use one of the preloaded seasonally appropriate wallpapers, such as "Tulips" in the spring, or the trail of leaves in the fall.
Until recently I was using some Rush (the BAND!) wallpaper that I downloaded from
Power Windows, a great tribute site. I was using the "Workin Them Angels" one from the new album, with the winged man (angel).
Now, however, I am using
this one (~400 KB). It's part of a series of artistically rendered EEG tracings. View the whole album
here. Pretty cool fractal-type stuff, if not actual fractals.
Anybody else?
Here's a small image of mine. I can't post the whole thing, since it wasn't free.
You, sir, must have the Cadillac of monitors. That thing comes across my 19" Sceptre as something like 2.35:1, is that what it truly is?
It's for a big widescreen, but what I run is bigger than that: 3 19" 5:4 monitors. I actually have 4 on my desk, but the 4th is on a KVM for my other 3 desktops. The video card in this one only supports 3 monitors.
I think Ken runs Cinemascope.
So that's one monitor for the Axiom boards, one for watching tastefully erotic movies, one for keeping tabs on the stock market, and a fourth one for work?
Heh.. no, no. 3 for work, one for the Boards.
<---- laughing at mental image of Ken grooving to "Uh, me so horny, uh, me so horny"
<---- Now wishing he could make it stop. Make it stop!!!
(self-medic8)
Ahhh, mush beddddder. Nighty night!
Seriously, any more wallpapers, anyone?
Sorry, at work I just use a boring stock Windows 2000 Professional wallpaper of an island and clear blue water. I don't know how to paste into here. I like to picture myself on that island. . .oh, about every five minutes or so.
At home, I use one of the stock Apple wallpapers. At least they are more stylish.
Nice one! Classy tribute.
my work laptop.
Looks like you've been working out!
Who ever even SEES their desktop?!?!?
I just have a picture of my kids. It reminds me why I'm here.
You mean on the forums? The kids can't be THAT bad, Tom!
Right now, I'm using this pic (large version, click on the picture) from the Astronomy Picture of the Day site, a superb source for cool wallpapers:
http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap080303.html
Here's my ACTUAL desktop. You asked, so let's not turn this political! Though I'm surprised no one ever noted the LP on my turntable....
Barak Hussein Obama and the Whitehouse....just doesn't mesh. well I guess there are many who want/feel the need to give up more of their paychecks in taxes. One thing I have learned the hard way is that you never talk politics on a first date.
And let's not talk politics on the boards. If we must, let's start a different thread for it, one that people who don't want to talk politics can avoid.
Hmmmm...
I guess you missed the part where I said "Let's not turn this political...."
Here's mine, it's my favorite grand nephew.
Looks like you've been working out!
Yeah and my gym obviously offers free tanning. lol
nah That's Quinton "Rampage" Jackson the UFC light heavy weight champ
I'm more like a Super heavy weight. lol
Ken paid for a wallpaper?
Not really. I paid for a book, and this was a goodie that came with it.
I get practically all mine from
http://www.mandolux.com and my brother. Great photos.
Of course, mine is of my favorite band ever, Kraftwerk. I know I have waaay too many folders and icons on my desktop, but I refuse to get rid of them. I'd lose them otherwise!
Mine’s boring, black for “User” and red for “Admin/Root.”
Mark
I hadn't noticed your turntable, now that you mention it...
The astronomy photo is my work computer. My home computer is currently set to this:
Marmalades for Obama
I've got Tegan and Sara on my desktop right now, as this computer is going to someone else soon. While I love Tegan and Sara, it's her favorite group. Usually I would have Brak or InuYasha or Homestar Runner or something like that as my background.
The good news is that my friend at Intel was finally able to order the processor I wanted, so that will come soon. Unfortunately, this means I need to research motherboards and video cards again. Maybe I'll dig this thread up again after I build my new system.
Currently using a picture of my little banana shaped Island from the space shuttle. If you look closely, you can see my EP500.
I've got two different desktops at the moment. They rotate every hour. On my laptop's 17" screen is this one:
And on the attached 30" screen is this one:
Peter, that's a great site you linked to. Good quality photos.
I usually use my own photos as my desktops. Here's my current one. Taken a couple weeks back from the Berkeley marina.
I always use one of my son at home, here's my current fav. This will change soon though as our next baby will be here in 4 weeks, YIKES!
What does my desktop icon arrangements tell you Doc?
Posted the img instead of the link this time:
I have a larger version split across dual 19" monitors at work
Using this one now; I usually change it monthly.
Mine is currently a pic I took at WDW last October.
I like your "To Do" list Dave.
Nothing gets by you Randy- at least not if it is Home Theater related
The following is what is on my desktop PC. My laptop is at work, and it has a different abstract background in blue. My wife's laptop has a picture of our kids, and my oldest daughter has a picture of her and your younger sister running through the shallow ocean waters along the beach in Jacksonville, FL.
That's a pretty cool image Nick. I like it.
It works best when you don't have a TON of icons on your desktop and if they are all on the left side. On my computer, I've got about 40 icons/documents on my desktop, and at the resolution, they are fine, but if they start to overlap the lighter parts in the middle, it almost wants to give you a headache if you are looking for a shortcut or something. I'd say at 1400x1050 (odd size I am running at) I can get about 52 (4 columns of 13) before it starts getting into the "problem" area...
My little girl!
How do you save a copy of your desktop??
PrintScreen, then paste into an image editor and save.
NGC 3372. "Previously unseen details" indeed! The cosmos giving us the
finger!.
A great picture of the waterfront in Rotterdam currently adorns my desktop.
Obviously John, that particular space anomaly appeared at just about the time broadcasts of "Melrose Place" would have begun bombarding them from Earth.
I rotate my backgrounds often as well, but this is my current one...
I took this photo last summer while on vacation in Colorado. Somewhere along Highway 9 between Dillon and Kremmling. Nikon D70, converted to B&W.
Yes, lots of very nice photos here.
Plenty of Windoze and Macs out there.
Here's one for the Linux users.
All right, now that I have a new computer:
And to think, one day that logo may bring in some money.
Here's hoping. I guess I need to come up with some products or services to go with my brand.
Can't help but notice you've got Gmail up in IE. Somewhere, Larry and Sergey are weeping.
I do love a good weep.
Seeing OhioKyle's desktop makes me want to try Linux. I just know that I was too stupid to do Linux however many years ago. Is it pretty easy to get an install of Linux going these days?
The thing about linux, is that when you get something working -- like a video card driver -- you feel like a GENIUS.
Ahh, and I see that ATI doesn't yet have Linux Catalyst drivers for the Radeon HD 3870.
Oh, I was pretty sure they did, just not for the 3870X2
It didn't show up in the list when I tried to go to the "Download graphics drivers" section. That list only had up to the HD 2900 Series. Maybe there's another place with newer Catalyst software?
Yeah, that's the page that's linked to if you click on the other Radeon products in the list. I suppose I could still try it out. I see a new version of Ubuntu is coming out in 5 days, so maybe I'll see what I can do with Linux then.
Check the readme. It has the 3x00 series listed.
Ahh, good deal. Thanks. Read me, Seymour!
Sorry about that reference. I don't even like Little Shop of Horrors.
Not a picture, but here's my wallpaper.
Up until a few days ago I had this one on my desktop. I think I had it as a wallpaper for about a year. This one's for you, Medic8r.
Ubuntu is definitely the way to go if trying Linux. I switched from Suse about 5 months ago and am surprised how easy it is to install and maintain all of the software. You can also run it off of the Live CD before installing it to your hard drive.
Good to know. Thanks. Yeah, I just want to see how it is. I'm going to be a total dummy, but it will be fun, I'm sure.
Changed it a little bit (more erotic this way?), and running at a new resolution with the new monitor.
Found some cool wallpapers for my dual widescreens I just got here at work. Here is a mini version of the one I am currently using:
Current screen: NGC 6992,
the Veil Nebula .
Changed it a little bit (more erotic this way?), and running at a new resolution with the new monitor.
less violent and bitey thats for sure!
less violent and bitey thats for sure!
So... less erotic?
