Definitely off topic, but...
With the Feds sending out the stimulus checks, I thought it migth be fun to hear what you guys are plannign on spending your money on. If you're Canadian or simply too well off to be receiving a windfall from the government, perhaps you could chime in with what you'd spend $1200 buck on if you had it to blow.
I'll start. I bought a new (to me) Blu Ray player on eBay (~$225) along with a few discs (~$50). Baby girl Elle got a new sand and water play table (~$85) and, no doubt, my wife will spend the remainder on shoes...
I would probably trade in my M22s for M80s if my wife allowed it.
If I get a check (I'm not even sure
) then I'm with Ken.
No, Ken, not
your savings account ...
I already bought Audiobytes, which I should receive tomorrow.
C'mon, man, you've already got a house.
Savings. Although, the missus said that when we reach a certain amount in savings, I can get my M80s...this money will only get me there quicker, sooooo I guess you could say i'm sending it to Canada.
The Bush league will love to hear that your stimulating Canada's economy with his money. Deliciously ironic.
haha, that is so true. I never even thought about that. There may be quite a bit of Axiom purchases. Axiom should be running some sales or promo's this month (maybe a free upgrade finish) I think to entice those Americans sitting on the fence.
I'm using it to take a hit out on somebody.
How much will the percentage of HDTV owners increase in 3 months in the USA? Any predictions?
How much will the percentage of HDTV owners increase in 3 months in the USA?
And how many of them will hook up their non-HD source(s) via RCA cables and complain that the picture quality is bad?
On second thought, I'm giving mine to Peter in the hopes that it will provide life insurance.
Although if I keep posting consecutively, I think I'll defeat the purpose of my payoff to Peter.
Hope Peter calms down soon.
In other news, one of the main criteria of Attention Deficit Disorder is - HEY! A chicken! C'mere, chicken, chicken, chicken ...
got a $600 check yesterday (direct deposit to my checking account). I don't file a joint return so I got 600 instead of 1200. I transferred the 600 to my savings account... That should help boost the economy right?
I did buy a really cool new tent yesterday but it wasn't with my $600.

I think the true questions is how many will hook up their non-HD source via RCA cables and THINK they are getting HD?
Yeah, that too.
Old people are funny.
And sometimes smell funny.
I sent it AND my return up to Canada for my Axioms that will arrive tomorrow!
Doesn't HDTV just mean that people look a little squished?
Peter, that was out loud. Maybe you need to stop by medic8r's thread more often.
Ditto.
Though I suspect that it will eventually be tapped to replace our aging 36" tube (
the HORROR!) SDTV with some new fancy-pants HDTV sometime this summer.
My WIFE is actually pushing for that...
And speaking of people who hook up their HDTV's incorrectly...
My in-laws do precisely this. They have a
goregeous giant plamsa set that I drool over every time we visit. They even have DirectTV and live in an area with all of the locals in HD. Yet they don't see the reason to upgrade to an HD package, or even put up an antenna. Too much hassle. Last time I checked, the TV was even hooked up using the coax cable from the DVR too, not even RCA jacks. They love the picture quality as is, so why bother?
That sort of thing makes me cringe.

I don't think I'll be getting anything, if I do I'll forget to tell my wife.
Good lord. You could do surgery in that thing!
I don't think I'll be getting anything, if I do I'll forget to tell my wife.
That works for most things, but not for STDs ...
It'll be a small drop in the bucket towards the deck we are building.
No check here, apparently the Feds believe my income level doesn't deserve a lending hand .... I never even got a thank you note for the lot's of $$$$ they took out in income taxes from me last year either.
I'm not even going to start.
Thanks for helping fund that bridge in Alaska.
My real answer is that my $1800 (just came in yesterday) is going into savings for about 2 weeks before we use it to pay down some debt.
Judging from teh rough straw poll that we've taken here, it appears that, mostly, the money given by the government will, in no way, stimulate the economy. Most of us are either saving it, paying down debt, or spending it on things they were already going to buy (read: tent, Blu Ray player, etc.)
Oh, poor Georgy boy, when will he learn...?
Oh, poor Georgy boy, when will he learn...?
Well, more a bribe than economic stimulus... hi, citizen at the polls - remember us? We gave you money.
Then again I'm told I'm cynical.
Bren R.
I bought hand guns with mine
Rick, you are a true American.
Won't be getting it, Adrien, but audio-wise I'd probably get about a hundred more CDs. In actuality I'd probably just add it to one of my mutual funds.
And Rick, that reminds me of an apparently obligatory demand around here: pics!
John, I'll get to them this weekend.
I'm going to buy some parts and attempt to build the HTPC I've been craving for a couple years now. Just ordered the case. Watch out for noob questions galore as I've never done this before... Should be some good laughs for some of you.
... if you don't shoot your finger off.
Let me know if you need any help with teh HTPC. I've been at it for a couple of years now. I've got my HTPC hooked up to my 100" projector screen. There are some really cool plug-ins if you're going to go with a Vista Media Center type HTPC, including streaming video from netflix.
... if you don't shoot your finger off.
No chance Peter, I have been around firearms all my life. I also hold an expert medal from the military for qualifying with the M16. I have an idea of what I'm doing
You know I was joking, right? Please don't point that thing at me.
Sure I did
Most into the savings account here. A bit towards some landscaping work in the backyard.

Get a bill from Axiom and you'll be ok.
2100 here. All went to overdraft
Won't stop me from buying the T-series speakers when they come out, though, which JC says should be any day now...

turns out some of the money I got is going into this vacation. We had to stay an extra day in this hotel due to the bag that contains our camping gear being delayed. I don't mind so much, though. We're an hour north of Las Vegas and it's hot. The swimming pool was great today.
Haven't seen a check yet...hoping it appears soon.
