For those not getting the owners cub e-mail.

Virtually everyone loves commanding deep bass and Axiom’s latest edition to its DSP subwoofer lineup--the new EP800--is the definitive deep-bass powerhouse. To Axiom EP600 owners, it may look familiar, but that’s only because the EP800 uses the same enclosure as the EP600. There, the similarity ends: it’s sealed rather than ported (to eliminate potential port noise at ultra-low infrasonic frequencies to 12 Hz), and uses two massive 12-inch dual voice-coil drivers running in parallel, so the amplifier can now deliver 800 watts!

I’ve written new custom digital code for the EP800, which has resulted in a sub with the smoothest, most linear (+/- 1 dB) deep bass I’ve ever produced (to 13 Hz; 12 Hz in a room) or, for that matter, which anyone has ever produced!

Exclusive to the Owner's Club

Pre-order your Axiom EP800 subwoofer by November 10th, midnight EST and receive 20% off the regular price, a saving of $470! (The regular EP800 price will be $2,350US). The Vassallo custom real-wood version of the EP800 will cost $2,770US. Owners Club cost will be $2,200US. Click here to take advantage of this exclusive offer. Available in Vertical (shown) or Horizontal configurations.

\:\( I was hoping they'd finally listen to my request and offer a diagonal configuration.

Diagonal would be cool.
This is definitely on my list once I am out of an appartment.
I might have to decide between furniture and this though... \:\)

Yeah, I saw this and thought "Ooohh! Save $470 on a sub I don't need to go with the speakers I don't need that I just ordered! No way I can justify spending $1k on a 500 but $2k on an 800..."

I am the demographic.

Due to a tight room and grueling WAF, does anyone know if this subwoofer can be mounted to the top of a 27" LCD tv?

I would love to see you just trying to lift that onto a 27" LCD. ;\)

good call! is the money due at the time of preorder? when will they be shipping?

I apparently don't get any newsletters from axiom...
Posted By: doormat Re: EP800 news - 10/11/08 01:36 AM
Not sure about the 800 but the newsletter also announced pre-orders for the T80/60/150 which start shipping in 4 weeks.

Pre-orders for the 800 go until 10 Nov, so I'd imagine sometime after that.

I bet the EP800 could hold the wussy LCD.

BTW how does an Axiom owner get the owners club e-mail?
Posted By: myrison Re: EP800 news - 10/11/08 02:59 AM
I think they had some problems getting them to everyone. I called today and asked and they said they'd add me to the list to be sure I received a copy... It's a new system and I think there are a few bugs to be worked out.

Also check your spam filters just to be sure as I've had lots of Axiom mail go there in the past. (In this case though, that wasn't the case... I just didn't get it).

I like how when you go to order it says "$1880.00 USD/pair." Are they counting each driver as an each, or do we really get two full EP800s for $1880.00? \:D

There's no way I can raise the money in time, but I would love a pair of these. I'll have to try either the Bill Me Later or set up a layaway or something. *slobber slobber*

I'm thinking that I will build a stand to hold my DLP "loosely" around a horizontal 800.

\:D It definitely looks like a fun sub. I started canceling preorders for things on Amazon.com. I think I really will see about doing the layaway, and of course since I won't want to wait tooooo long after it comes out to have it, I'll have to be tight with all of my other purchases. M80s are due to arrive Tuesday, if I am eligible for the owner's discount I will probably spring for the ep800, if not I will be looking to see how the emotiva 2112 subs are received at the audioholics show, you can't beat the estimated price of $999 for a 1000 watt amp and two sealed 12" subs, yet another surprisingly low price from emotiva, hopefully the build quality of their speakers will be more solid than the initial run of their amps, the speakers released so far have received good reviews. It might even be better to have 2 separate subs, that's what everyone says, but I still want the ep800, and could always add another sub later to smooth out the sound.

It does seem to consider them a pair in the shopping cart. I mean, it shows up as just one subwoofer, but when I have two EP800s and one other item in the cart, it gives me the home theater 5% discount.

I bet the high price of the EP800 lets it count as 2 speakers in order to help you get to a discount faster. Hey, if you're gonna pay that much, at least they give you a nod in the tally.

Well, Brent said they should only count as single units, but as of a couple of minutes ago, they were still counting as two. Either way, I'll get the additional 5% discount. I need two more QS8s to make it 7.1 (well, 7.2, since I'm going for two EP800s), so I'll just put those in the same order, along with the extra balanced XLR cable I'll be needing. Of course this means another payment or two that I'll have to endure, but it will be so nice when I get it all. Of course, I won't be buying anyone Christmas gifts this year.

In my case, I received the invitation (and responded) but then did not receive the newsletter. The process after that was the same as you described (calling Axiom, getting the PW, etc.)

JC also forwarded me the newsletter in the meantime since I couldn't seem to get their automated system's e-mails to come through to me.

Yahoo has liked to swallow all mails from Axiom for as long as I've been a customer (despite selecting "NOT SPAM" many times), so I wasn't surprised it happened in this case, but it is an annoying trend. \:\(

Posted By: CV Re: EP800 news - 11/02/08 01:28 AM
Well, I thought I would be able to get away with it. As impatient as I am, I was hoping I'd be able to do the Bill Me Later financing option on the huge order I was going to put in. I didn't actually think *I* would be approved, given my limited credit history, and I wasn't, but then I concocted a plan to utilize my parents' credit. I made my parents an offer, said they could take the EP600 off my hands if they put in the order for me. My dad liked that idea, but after trying under both my mother's and father's names, Bill Me Later still doesn't want to approve the order. I didn't foresee that possibility. So it looks like it's back to the layaway option. The good news is that there is a vacation time cashout coming up at work in the beginning of December. I will have 130-140 hours to cash out, so that will help. Also, my dad was considering giving me rent credit for the EP600, so that would help pay it off a little quicker, too. Still not the getting-it-right-at-launch that I was hoping for, but not terrible.
Posted By: fredk Re: EP800 news - 11/02/08 02:22 PM
I think you are seing something a lot of people will experience over the next year or so. The companies running the financing are having a very hard time getting access to credit themselves.

At least this way when you get the sub, its all yours.
Posted By: myrison Re: EP800 news - 11/02/08 02:43 PM
Actually, I think it's a problem with Bill Me Later... I have no idea of yours or your parents' credit, but am basing that opinion on my own experience with it when I ordered my first Axiom system. My credit score is in the top 1% (or so they told me on my last mortgage application), and I still got denied on the Bill Me Later. Don't feel bad, I think their approval logic is not entirely airtight.

\:\) I just need to learn patience. It will all be worth it when it's all paid off, though I really wanted to be able to rub all of your faces in it sooner. Ha ha. Really, though, it's better not to get involved with loan sharks, right? Right.
Posted By: CV Re: EP800 news - 11/02/08 09:16 PM
All right, I figured out that I can have the subwoofers paid off on February 9th, no problem. That doesn't even take into account the PTO cashout, though. With that, I'm looking at maybe December 29th. And if my dad is willing to give me rent credit for my EP600, I could potentially have it paid off on December 15th. Here's hoping that all works out. That would be amazing.
Posted By: myrison Re: EP800 news - 11/03/08 03:20 AM
Pay it off by the 15th, and you can have 2 EP800s under the tree for Christmas... or really, if you have 2 EP800s you can just skip the tree. You want have any time for distractions at that point!

I was a week off in my calculations. It would be December 22nd. However, now my dad's talking about getting a loan from the bank. I think he really wants my EP600. Ha ha.

You're lucky. My dad's idea of home theater is to turn the TV up real loud like.
Posted By: CV Re: EP800 news - 11/03/08 07:10 PM
Well, my parents did go for the loan, and out of curiosity, they checked their credit scores. My dad had a 797, and my mom had an 806, so yeah, Bill Me Later is weird. Anyway, the subs are ordered. Now I just need to hurry up and pay my parents back since I hate that feeling of owing people. \:\) Almost as much as I hate that feeling of waiting for new toys.

Charles:
I don't want to make you feel guilty or anything, but when did you plan on sending me the subwoofer you promised me in that phone call last night? I mean, no big rush, I just know that you hate having things like this hanging over your head.

And I couldn't hear you too clearly (I know it's weird, but it sounded like you had an entire Costco Muffin stuffed in your face or something!) so I'm not sure if you said you were sending my an EP600 or an EP800.

Either one would be fine by me, just let me know which and when I should plan on being home to receive it.

Oh, and as much as I appreciate you telling me that you'll step aside to let me date Regina Spektor, YOU go ahead. Really. I know you really like her, so I wouldn't want to interfere with that.

We really ARE best buds like you said last night! Thanks again for the sub!

Well, that makes two of us who experienced the same thing. It's probably something Axiom should look into to be sure it's not a bug in the way they are passing information to Bill Me Later that causes its verification to fail...

I wonder how many people get to that point and give up. (wusses!) ;\)

That's a good point, Jason. I figure SOME people have to be getting approved for Axiom to not be looking into it, and it makes me wonder WHO is getting approved.

So I've recently ordered the epic 80 600 and I'm also thinking of upgrading it to the ep800. After seeing the above picture MarkSJohnson posted it has me thinking that that would be a great place to put the sub without having it take up more floor real estate. My question though is...
What are the odds that that would be the optimal place for it in a room and would there be any issues with it built into a cabinet with the center channel right above it? Would I be better off just getting the vertical version then if it does work out then just place it on its side??

Dyna - that's what I'd recommend. The only difference of vertical versus horizontal is where they put the screw holes for the feet and which direction the Axiom logo faces on the grill.

When I ordered my first 600 I ordered horizontal, but the location I had in mind didn't work out (didn't sound or look good), and I've had it standing up ever since. It definitely takes up significantly less space standing.

The plate / amp is the same orientation on both?
Posted By: SatKartr Re: EP800 news - 11/04/08 09:33 PM
I was approved for the M80s ($1198) but not for the rest of the speakers ($3111). My credit is not that great so I was happy to get through even the first hoop, I suspect given Jason's example that there may be a steep cliff much above $1k where they tend to decline.

I'm basing my information on what JC told me when I asked him the same question, but I haven't personally seen both models. I'll confirm sometime in November when my EP800 gets here. ;\)

Alright thanks for the advice, vertical it is. Just about to make the call and see how much difference in price its going to be to upgrade and if they'll still let me do it. I'll keep you guys posted on how it goes. Wish me luck!

Posted By: CV Re: EP800 news - 11/27/08 09:44 AM
Has anyone been asking Axiom what the latest ETA is for the EP800s? I'm crossing my fingers that they ship next week so they can arrive before The Dark Knight comes out on Blu-ray.
Posted By: SRoode Re: EP800 news - 11/27/08 12:40 PM
Geeze, I've sent several E-Mails, and gotten responses from Brent that I would be added to the owners club... Still no invite. So, no EP800 for me.
Posted By: myrison Re: EP800 news - 11/27/08 12:52 PM
The owner's club thing seems to be finicky to the nth degree... I'm in the same boat, except I called and ordered one when I heard they came out. However, still no confirmation that I'm on the owner's club list, and I never received the e-mail other than forwarded directly from JC when I asked him to skip all the screwing around with the mail list and just send it to me.

CV - I called Axiom earlier this week and they still weren't willing to commit to dates, but said they 'hoped' that it'd be shipping in the next two weeks. I hate to say this because I know I got a deal on the 800, but man, I am getting frustrated with the wait and inability to pin down when it will be done. My raging head cold isn't helping my mood I'm sure. :grumble:

Yeah, waiting is something I've never been good at. And yeah, they gave us a deadline for preordering. It's only fair that we should be able to give a deadline for receiving our order. \:D Really, though, I'm sure they're just making sure it's all up to snuff. *trying to justify it*

Mark - that was my head exploding, not Charles'.

All I can say is... unreal... I was just told Friday that they'd almost certainly be shipping Monday. Then yesterday when I received no update Monday I was told to expect an update today, in which I received this totally unexpected additional delay...

I was really counting on having this here for Christmas. You guys all know I love Axiom, but the way this has been handled has really not given me a warm fuzzy. I'm quite bummed...

Yeah, it would have been nice to be kept in the loop without having to keep asking what's going on (which I've personally only done once). I mean, they had no problem charging the account way back at the beginning of November. Two months will have elapsed before I *could* get my order. Yeah, more communication would have been nice.
Posted By: myrison Re: EP800 news - 12/17/08 06:54 AM
Exactly what I wrote them tonight CV... it will be 3 months (or more) that they've had my money by the time they ship the EP800... fairly unreasonable, especially since I was originally told 5 weeks as the estimated time to build and ship. Hey, I realize dates slip, but like you said, the only way I received updates after those 5 weeks was to call... and I've done it much more than once, which I guess speaks to my relative impatience.
Posted By: onn Re: EP800 news - 12/17/08 01:44 PM
I know it can get frustrating to wait for something you really want and are given a so so date and it doesn't happen in that time frame. I would prefer that Axiom gets this sub right before shipping it out. I would be pissed if I got the EP800 and there was a flaw of some sort and I'd have to wait some more to get the problem fixed. I don't think they're doing this on purpose, things happen. It would drive me crazy if Axiom notified me every week with an update that the following week had to be changed. So after all this babbling I would say relax, forget and when you get that e-mail saying your order has been shipped it can be a happy day instead of, it should have been here on a certain date.
It could always be worse, you can have your broken TV sitting there waiting for some clown to come and repair it (sorry wid)

Maybe if you order another one they will come faster?
Posted By: pmbuko Re: EP800 news - 01/04/09 07:15 AM
This is why companies should NOT give release date estimates. "We are working on making it (better)" is all they should feel obligated to say.

A delay in the release date means either that it isn't up to snuff yet, or that they found a bug or flaw in a release candidate that would have made you whine if you knew it was in the one you had.

So, take joy in the delays. It'll be that much better. \:\)
Posted By: CV Re: EP800 news - 01/04/09 07:34 AM
Yeah, I should either NOT preorder anything ever or learn to have a better attitude about the inevitable delays. Unfortunately, I'm drawn to the preorder discounts... but I figure the lack of reviews offsets the savings enough to where I don't want to have an indefinite wait on top of it. Still, if the delays are a necessary evil, lack of communication is not, and they should be sharing the progress more readily. Some may argue that they shouldn't have to take time out of this last bit of product development crunch to provide updates like that, but I have to believe it takes less time to update people on your own schedule than to take call after call from impatient people.
Posted By: SatKartr Re: EP800 news - 01/09/09 07:16 PM

Posted By: CV Re: EP800 news - 01/10/09 04:23 AM
The waiting sucks, yeah, but I'm not to the point of asking for my money back. It's still a compelling enough product that I'm not considering other options, and the preorder price is the other reason I wouldn't want to back out. But yeah, it will be nice when I can finally be tempted to take a sick day or two.
