Cool idea for a thread. As a Notre Dame alumnus (1990), I always enjoy talking football.

I saw my first college game in person since 1997 yesterday when I road-tripped to UNC to see us fritter it away in the second half. Great start to the game: we kicked off, they went three-and-out, and we marched down the field for a touchdown. At half we were up 17-9, but we turned the ball over too many times to win. Still, we had that final chance and almost pulled out a win in the last seconds.

Still, at 4-2, we're leaps ahead of last year. With Weis' recruiting classes, it's only going to get better.

Maybe it'll be ND-Oklahoma State for all the marbles in a year or two? Congrats on your good season so far!

Glad to hear you got to go back to a game! sorry they lost though. Hopefully I willmake it back to Oklahoma State for a football game soon.

My Michigan Wolverines are struggling this year. I'm still a fan though. I hate those people that only cheer for their team during the winning years.

These "off" years just make me appreciate the good ones that much more.

Go Horns! Looks like David's Cowboys completely knocked the Tigers off their game last week (so badly that they're still suffering today).

They looked pretty flat against TX today... either that, or TX was playing out of their minds good. Colt McCoy was definitely at the top of his game... fun game to watch.

You guys gave them a heck of a run. I thought you were going to pull it off for a while. Definitely a good game.

And my Huskers managed to beat Baylor today too while I was attending in person. Definitely a fun Saturday!

Posted By: terzaghi Re: The Official College Football Thread - 10/26/08 05:51 PM
Yeah, I was a little bummed that we lost- but hey it went down to the last play and the last few seconds of the game! (even if it was a hail-mary attempt at a win)

I think gundy made a coaching error when he didn't call a time out to come up with a good game plan at 4th and 7 with a minute or so left. I mean, why would Zac Robinson pass the ball to the LINE OF SCRIMAGE on 4th and 7? o well...

I was surprised we actually stopped texas on the 1 yard line on their last drive and gave us at least a chance to come back. Plus we scored the same number of rushing touchdowns against texas as all of the previous 7 teams combined (only 2), and we managed to force colt to throw his 1st interception at a home game all season (in 170+ pass attempts).

hey, 7-1 is nothing to complain about when it comes to the cowboys \:\)

Now I need The longhorns to lose to texas tech, and texas A&M (yeah right)... Then OSU has to beat texas tech and OU and we can still be the big 12 champions. Now doesn't that sound simple?

Posted By: myrison Re: The Official College Football Thread - 10/27/08 01:39 AM
Anything can happen, but I wouldn't put money on that scenario.

Btw - I totally agree about not calling a time out. It was a bizarre call. What did he think he was saving his time outs for if he didn't call one then? (not that I'd be any better in that kind of pressure packed situation, but still... I don't get his pay either) \:\)

Well,

Jason (myrison) hope your huskers can pull out a win against OU today. I wouldn't mind seeing some top ranked big 12 teams lose today (except my cowboys of course).

Today I am pulling for texas tech and nebraska (and OSU) \:\)
Posted By: myrison Re: The Official College Football Thread - 11/01/08 06:50 PM
David, I hope you're right, but I wouldn't put money on it. ;\)

I'm actually going to a Texas Hold 'Em / Texas v. Texas Tech football party tonight, so I'm going to have to twist some arms to get the guys to flip back and forth to the NE game. It could be that I'll be glad I'm not watching it all as it definitely could turn into a rout quickly. \:o

I'm trying to set reasonable expectations and have decided that I'll consider it a wash if Texas OR Nebraska wins today. (even if I lose at poker, which is most normally the case) \:D

the Texas vs. Texas Tech game was amazing!

BCS rankings aren't posted yet but USAtoday and AP top 25 show Alabama as number 1 and texas tech close behind... Texas tech played a helluva game against texas, kinda surprised they won't be getting the number one slot.

Hopefully USC can beat alabama next week and OSU can beat texas tech. wouldn't hurt for OU or pennstate to lose either.

David, are you trying to get tickets to any of the concerts on the DMB fall tour? They aren't coming to Toronto, and I'd love to see them in Buffalo but I can't.

With them likely breaking up next year, I doubt I'll see them again frown .
Posted By: terzaghi Re: The Official College Football Thread - 09/18/10 06:55 PM
No breaking up, just a year off. Some rumors that they are playing their last show in their hometown, the place they played their first shows, and then will never play again but I doubt it. I wont be able to make the east coast tours. Too much $$$ for airfare, hotel, fix, etc. But i wish!

I must say soccer doesn't hold the only Oscars in sports. Derek Jeter's latest attempt at acting was quite believeable till the replay showed the ball hit the end of the bat.
Posted By: Ya_basta Re: The Official College Football Thread - 10/01/10 09:52 PM
All sports are guilty of it. I do think that the instances in soccer are hyperbolized, and there's an agenda in North America. The first sport that most people refer to for acting is soccer, and most don't even watch the sport. I agree it's a problem, but not to the level that's portrayed in the media.

I LOVE hockey, and I think the acting is worse than what it is in soccer.
Posted By: Adrian Re: The Official College Football Thread - 10/01/10 10:04 PM
Hockey has it's fair share of Oscar nominees....that clown on Philadelphia(Carsilly-O) and the other guy on Montreal(LaPierre) would give De Niro a run for his money.

Carsilly-O laugh !
Posted By: jakewash Re: The Official College Football Thread - 10/02/10 05:45 AM
Hockey at least will penalize a player for acting while Soccer, well, they go down without even being touched by the player and the Refs buy it. I guess it really boils down to poor refing. If they wouldn't call that stuff the players wouldn't be so willing to act.
Posted By: Ken.C Re: The Official College Football Thread - 10/02/10 06:17 AM
In Formula 1, such fake incidents are impossible.

Unless you're a second string driver for Renault.
Posted By: jakewash Re: The Official College Football Thread - 10/02/10 03:59 PM
And the manufacturers never order the number 2 driver to let the other driver pass, at least they now get penalized for doing it during the race. The drivers now make it look like they are actually racing when it happens now.

Well another college football weekend has passed and Alabama will remain atop all the polls. They still have their work cut out having to play SC(20th)& LSU(12th) on the road and finish the season against Auburn(10th)at home. Fwiw both LSU and Auburn should move up this week and likely rank higher. They'll also likely have to beat Florida again in the SEC championship game before they kick OSU butt in the BCS championship game...oh yeah! wink

LSU's win was spotlighted in the sermon at our church today. Our pastor, a devout LSU fan, left his living room in disgust, ranting and raving, when the clock ran out - completely missing the penalty called. This morning at the men's breakfast at our church, he was handed a single mustard seed. So inspiring was the mustard seed that he changed his entire sermon to focus on the topic of faith rather than whatever he was going to talk about (which is usually planned several weeks in advance).

At the other end of the spectrum, I asked my wife, "LSU played yesterday?"

To all of my fellow Americans:

Should be an exciting match up tonight between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Winner claims big 12 south title and plays Nebraska for Big 12 championship.

Most years OSU is just playing to try and keep OU from going to the big 12 championship but this year this year they are the ones playing for something to lose.

It makes me curious about Canadian college ball because I just don't know anything about it. In fact I always just assumed it must exist but have never heard for sure that it does until now, heh.

The Vanier Cup(Canadian College Championship game) took place last night and it was a very good game; it even went into overtime. The Grey Cup (CFL champioship) game is tomorrow.

Not quite exciting, except to ME, but my brother and sister-in-law were on tv when they cut to the crowd after Iowa scored it's only touchdown against Nebraska Friday. I was watching their boys at the time, and fortunately we recorded it. The boys were in disbelief seeing their parents on tv. LOL!

I didn't get to see the Vanier cup this year but it was fun to watch the BC lions come back from an 0 and 5 season opening to win the Grey Cup!

Mary, that is exiting. I always wondered what you would look like in a beer helmet. Oh, sorry, I thought you said You were on TV. Still cool though.

Oklahoma state is looking great against Oklahoma! 41 to 3 so far and still lots of time left! Not bad considering that they were only favored by 3.5 points...

I would prefer that the Cowboys (rather than bama, again) play LSU in the title game.

Same here! If it wasn't for that solid performance from Iowa state and not so great performance by OSU it would be certain. Now we wait and see...
