Well, I guess it's actually going to happen.

Fox hunts down 'Cowboy Bebop'

I just can't see him portraying Spike Spiegel well at all.
Well a few of Keanu(Ted)'s "Whoa!"s might help resonate those moments of interstellar travel!

When I saw the preview of this in the active topics page I thought you were joking. I try to stay ignorant of upcoming projects so I won’t be disappointed if they decide not to make them or sometimes if they do decide to make them and this is definitely the latter.

Before I even start ranting about “canoe” playing Spike there’s a bigger problem. The main reason Cowboy Bebop is great is because IT’S NOT MADE IN HOLLYWOOD (sorry for shouting).

Reeves? Really? REEVES? Are they insane. I suppose their going to get Angelina Jolie to play Faye and David Spade to play Ed.

Ok seriously now that I’m recovering from the shock if you have to make a live action “Cowboy Bebop” I don’t see how you make it work for the fans with really popular famous actors in any of the main roles. Like the LOTR movies you need to get people who aren’t typecast in movies already.

If I had to pick known actors off the top of my head for some of the main roles how about John Cusack or David Boreanaz as Spike. Reeves? Perhaps Morena Baccarin as Faye and maybe Alison Lohman as Ed. But since Ed is my favorite character who could really play her. Maybe a double-jointed 15 year old gymnast or a very young Sandy Duncan.

I guess the only consolation is that before they’ll be able to make it the world economy will have collapsed and we’ll all be staring in a new reality show version of “Mad Max”

I think the big reason Keanu's got the main role is because he was the one pushing to get the film made. At least, from what I've read.
Once I finally got it through my head that Cowboy Bebop was not the same as Even Cowgirls Get the Blues (D'oh !!) my first thought was that Spike seemed like the kind of character that Keanu Reeves would want to play.
I'm still trying to sort out my feelings about this project.

Here's the way I see it - the worst it will do is make DVDs of the TV show more expensive, so buy them now before the price goes up. I have totally mixed feelings about pretty much everything Keanu Reeves is involved with - I can't say I think he was a great actor in any of the movies, but he *does* manage to get a lot of interesting films made which we might not get to see otherwise.

I'm starting to get more tolerant of remakes and "movies based on..." as I see them drag in another generation of viewers, who will then usually watch and appreciate the original.
True. Good thing I have the original DVDs already.

I think what I'm most concerned about is turning animated shows and such into live action films. There seems to be an over-the-topness filmmakers insist on adding to the mix. Animation sometimes gets misinterpreted as cartoony.
Agreed. Nobody seems to understand that the appeal of good cartoons is the "good" part, not just the "cartoon" part.
If they really want to make this work I hope the get Joss Whedon to make the movie. But I have a feeling that they won‘t and “Firefly” will end up being a better “Cowboy Bebop” than the real live action “Bebop.”

Look what they did to “Starship Troopers.”

I wouldn't want Joss Whedon touching it, either. I still haven't been able to get into his stuff.
Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog didn't do it for you?

I only watched the first couple of parts, and still nothing.
Keanu was perfect in his role for "The day the earth stood still" - a monotone, boring, otherworldly man from another planet
I'm old.

I've never even heard of Cowboy Bebop.
Don't worry, sir, we'll get off your lawn!
Mark I'm also old and have never heard of Cowboy Bebop either, so I wiki'ed it and here we go...

What is this Cowboy Bebop anyway?

At first I thought maybe they were talking about the old great black and white TV* show Sky King and him beboping around in his ultra modern 1960 Cessna 310, I guess not huh.

*Black and white TV. \:\)

Yeah, I wouldn't really say it's age that has kept you out of the loop. Most people wouldn't know what it is.
Count me in that group, I thought WTF is 'Cowboy Bebop'? the sequel to Brokeback Mtn? \:D
I knew, but then, CV and I are cool like that.

The fact that I have a large roster of teen patients helps, BTW.

I'm just glad you're getting something out of the sessions.
