I couldn't figure out how to post my pics to the axiom gallery, so I figure this link is the next best thing:

Very nice set-up. What's the finish on the speakers?

I like the room! How do you like the projector? It's one of the ones I have looked at for when we get into a place where I can dedicate a room to HT.

Also I also have the LFM-1 EX and love it!

skubic,

Very nice looking setup. I wish I had a dedicated theater room rather than just the living room. I was wondering about the corner placement of the sub though. Usually they don't do so well in the corner unless they were designed for the corner like the SVS cylinder sub, for example. Have you tried different locations for placement? The sub is the most important speaker in a home theater system system.

I have heard plenty of people actually suggest corner placement.

I tried a couple of spots for mine and ended up putting it in the corner.

BTW, very nice HT room, and a very nice looking house!

The HT and the bar def. makes me jealous.

Man Scott, what a room. I'm going to echo Steve here and ask your opinion on the pt-ax200u. That there projector is currently on top of my list and would love to hear your thoughts.

Thefwam and ptRyno,

I love the Panasonic AX-200U projector. I had originally purchased an Epson Home Cinema 1080 from http://www.projectorpeople.com (highly recommended BTW...projector people that is). It's kind of a funny story now, but my wife had given me the go ahead to buy the HT setup and I went crazy, 1080p projector, two subs, Velodyne SMS-1 sub equalizer. As the boxes started to arrive, my wife started to get very nervous (angry really, but we'll just say "nervous"). She suggested (ordered me) to scale it back.

The most important factor for me was the sound, so I didn't want to cut any corners there. But, after seeing how enormous the subs were, I decided I only needed one for the size of my room. I sent one back and, since I was only going to have one sub, I also sent the SMS-1 back. I also decided to trade the Epson for the Panasonic AX-200U.

Although the AX-200U is only 720p, I am not dissapointed in the least. The more I thought about it, it made sense to me to send the 1080 projector back and get the much cheaper 720 model. With only a 100" screen and the fact that we sit back far enough from the screen, from what I've read, I'm not missing a whole lot. Granted, I do have blu-ray, but the picture quality is still amazing. We have satellite HD and most of the HD content is broadcast in 720 anyway. Although there are new a few channels broadcasting in 1080i. The fact is, technology is always ahead of the market and i figured I'd get a 720 projector now for much less money and upgrade later once there is more 1080 content (or better?) available.

My wife was very skeptical about projection from the get go. She had those old theater vision projection TV's from the 80's in her head and was convinced the picture quality would suck. Well, the Panasonic projector has made a believer out of my wife. Out of the box, we were amazed with the picture quality, even before any calibration (which I haven't really done fully yet). The projector was extremely easy to install. Picture quality is excellent. Skin tones are amazing. The projector is one of the brightest 720 models available and would does well in both dim and brighter rooms. I have yet to find anything about this projector I don't like.

Haoleb,

I would love more subwoofage! As indicated above, I had more woofage, but I let that fish go. Although I don't regret the switch from 1080 to 720 on the projector, I do regret sending the other sub back.

nickboros,

I've been limited in sub placement due to the length of my sub cable (not long enough). I've been meaning to order a longer cable so I can try some different placement locations. If it remains along the front wall, the current corner placement sounds the best. As indicated on my website, this is a very new system and I'm still tweaking and calibrating.

Very nice room! Nicely done, indeed.

Nice room! Did you do all the work yourself? Just looking at that bar makes we want a drink.
Posted By: skubic Re: First pics of my HT setup... - 08/07/08 12:10 PM
I did a good bit of the work myself. My wife's side of the family has a lot of tradesman, so I was able to get a lot of expert help along the way, but I did contract out the drywall and carpeting. I'm just so glad to be at the end of the project. Although now that I have the bar and HT up and running, I'm finding it difficult to motivate myself to do all the last finishing details.

Scott, like I told you separately, bravo. Colors, floors, bar, all awesome.

On the sub comments... I have two subs both in corners here and have a very flat frequency response, so I think it depends more on your room than anything. It's definitely worth experimenting elsewhere, but I don't think the corner by itself is necessarily a bad thing. It could be good or bad depending on your room. Only one way to find out.
