A loooong while back some regulars around here (I used to be one of those guys) put together some mix cds and shared them with others on the board. It was a great way to get exposed to music you may not regularly listen to.

The only criteria for what could (should?) be on any of the cd's was that the SQ should be top notch, and it'd be music that's not top 40 that we'd all already heard.

I'd love to try it again. Though I'm guessing many of the young whipper-snappers around here don't know what CD's are. How about throwing our mixes into a folder on dropbox and sharing them?

I'm all for it, even though people may already be overexposed to the bands I listen to.

Well, it may just be the two of us, but I'll start to put together a selection of tracks.

When I can, I'll supply wav or flac files. There may be some tracks where that won't be possible though.

Doesn't need to be obscure, just not the stuff you'll hear on the radio 100x per day.

My only caution would be the ... iffyness? of putting it on dropbox rather than on mix CDs.

How's one any less/more iffy than the other? It won't be a publicly open dropbox folder. Just shared with a few people who participate. I'll also simply upload a single zip file named "axiom-mix.zip" or something similar - not individual tracks.

All that said, I'm a-ok with making and mailing cd's if that's what people would rather do. (Soooo 20th century!) LOL

Someone here put one together last year. I made a cd from it and listened to it a lot at first. It introduced me to Robyn. I've bought one of her cd's because of that sampling.

Count me in. I think a zip file dropped in a dropbox(-like) place will be fine. We can even password protect it and DM each other passwords if people want to ensure they're not sharing songs with the whole world. I started putting together some tracks today.

I had a lot of fun putting my mix together. Because I wasn't making a CD, I was more liberal with my track selections and the total play time is about 90 minutes. I got really fussy over the pacing and track transitions. I hope it comes through.

Can't help it. It's the Canadian in me.

Great mix, Peter. The whole thing was a pleasant experience. A few that jumped out at me on the first listen were Kelly Hogan, JD McPherson, and Sara Watkins. I'll have to listen again and look up some of these artists.

I made a mix, but it's going to be mostly artists I've mentioned often, but I'll assume it'll still be fresh for most of you, because how often do you really follow my links? Ha ha. I know I'm bad at following links, too, so this form of sharing ensures a higher exposure rate.

Also, my mix doesn't have as high of a concentration of great sound quality, but here's hoping at least some of it passes some sort of standard. Simply PM me for the link if you're interested.

For the sake of convenience, I converted all files that weren't already MP3 to 320 kbps MP3. Oh, and I didn't spend a lot of time on the order of the mix, since I don't seem to have the knack for it that Peter does.

I thought about doing it, but honestly, anything I can come up with would really be a one-trick blues / blues-rock pony. I don't really listen to anything else of late....certainly nothing new or exciting.

I tried to make tracks 1-15 flow nicely. The bonus tracks are songs I wanted to include, but I could never find a good place for them to "fit" in.

Still working on mine. At least I have it started. There is a song that I really want to add and I'm still looking for the CD locally. So few places to buy music locally now. Only one Mom&Pop type store downtown and even the last big box store keeps only a scant collection now.

I understand as I myself usually order through Amazon or whatever now and only enter these places when I'm looking for local artists. I think I'll make a conscious effort to support them more, when I can, especially the little local shop.

I envy you. Our last Mom&Pop CD store closed several years back.

Where do you guys get fresh Moms and Pops?

There's the perfect, not so little, new/used CD/DVD/BD/Book/Game store in Warrensburg, Missouri that I discovered a little while back. It's called Hastings. Located near I-50 and 13 Hwy junction. I go that way about once every 6 weeks, and going to become a regular stop for me.

So, if anyone goes by that way, check them out. They are on the South East side of that junction.

FYI, it's entirely Atlantic Canadian bands. Our music Industry has been on fire here the last few years so there was a ton to choose from. Unlike my last mix though, It's a very wide variety of styles. Country, blues, rock, jazzy funk, folk, dance and more.

Aside from procrastination, much of my delay was that I was waiting trying to find the Stone Mary CD around locally but they were sold out everywhere I went. I really wanted to add them though so I downloaded the song from iTunes. Between iTunes version and the conversion to MP3, I think there is a tiny bit of distortion in the opening guitar riff. Try to suffer through it though. Christine Campbells' voice is PURE Rock & Roll.

I think when JP first started on his mix it was pretty much all vaudeville skits. Yeah, he's been working on it for THAT long.

Andrew, I listened to your mix at work yesterday and caught myself being distracted by it a few times. Not all of the songs are compatible with passive listening.
