Are you sure you know what an eq really does? It has nothing to do with speaker distances, that would be the typcal Auto setup or calibration systems like YPAO on the yammie, Denon, pioneer, HK all have the same type of thing.
EQ has more to do with compensating for either bad speakers, or bad accoustics in a room, and adjust or tweaking your musical/movie sound quality beyond anything the typical treble/bass controls can do. It can be a very powerful tool if used RIGHT. OR a nightmare if you screw it up.
