John: I think some of the problems that I am having in selecting a new receiver is that their specifications all basically read the same and there isn't anything specific that I want them to do that sets one apart from the other.

I am convinced that I don't want or need HDMI/ DVI switching and video scaling. I would, however, like at least 4 optical (audio) inputs. I don't know if I want it THX certified. "Real" power isn't an issue since I plan to use it as a pre/ pro.

I have not determined any significant quality or customer service difference in the majority of the different brands. Price is not a major swing factor for what I am looking for.

I am personally convinced that most people just don't know what they are talking about when they refer to one brand or another as warm, bright, etc. I think that is just so much BS!

So, I am in somewhat of a quandry. What should my selection be based on?

Anyone have any opinions????
