I’ve got M3’s as rear surrounds and quite honestly I just don’t understand what all the fuss is about regarding rear surround channels. Even with movies like LOTR’s that were recorded in DTS 6.1, there’s hardly anything coming from these channels. I think you could stick just about anything on the wall behind you and you’d do just fine. Even music…..there’s really not much coming from them. The most sound I’ve heard from my rear surrounds so far is listening to Pink Floyd, DSOTM in SACD Dolby PL IIX music. Pretty cool sounding CD, but still, even with this I think anything would sound just fine.

I also have a set of 22’s that I’m running in parallel with 80’s as mains. I’ve tried them as mains just to hear them and compare them to the 80’s. I also did this with the M3’s, but that’s anther story…… Definitely go for the 80’s. You’ll be happy.
