You can certainly try this with your 500 but I can't fathom why it would sound better.

This method is not as efficient as using the LFE output on your receiver. Hence, some of your receiver's power will be wasted.

If you do decide to try it, the sub should be set to off. The speakers should be automatically set to large by the firmware and the cross-over is a "don't care" since the sub is turned off (at least that's how mine works).

I also wanted to point out that more BOOM does not a better sub make . If your 500 turns out to be anything like my 600, it booms when appropriate and everything else is as smooth as Rob Thomas on Santana's Supernatural .
