I realize this is not a direct answer to your question, but if WAF (wife acceptance factor) is the main thing driving you to in-wall versus towers, I would at least show her the BEAUTY of the M60/80 towers in High Gloss Cherry before you give up on the Towers.
My wife was against the tower look as well until she saw the high gloss cherry (which is now available as a free upgrade). It is still a veneer finish, but the speakers look amazing compared to the standard finishes. Several folks here have commented on how they passed the wife's test when they came out of the box. (though you may still have to put the grills on to appease her.
