This would be like the PS3 getting a free update to the same features of the PS4, I don't think even Sony would do that for free.
I think there's a lot more difference in features between generations of consoles than that of receivers. However, I can see how an upgrade like this, even costing money, is better for existing owners than making them buy a whole new receiver. Still, this kind of thing can get a little dangerous, with them perhaps sometimes purposely leaving out features just so they can charge you more for them later.
