As usual there's a lot of good points/information to be had here.
I hadn't thought about the listening level issue. Upon further review we'd have to almost build shelves no higher than the picture someone posted. And that's fine...it'll mean less work for me
She's okay with all this because we talked about the possibility of having to have the speakers a certain distance from the wall so she knows there's liable to be complications.
It just goes to show what you don't know. I had my other front speakers (part of a 5 channel shelf system) on the floor. Obviously that wasn't ideal either.
Learning all this stuff is addicting.
