It will not die. It's sound quality is superb. Even though it is only 5.1 without DTS-96/24 capability, its sound quality is better than my Onkyo Integra DTC 9.4 and I think better than the TX NR 1007 as well. I know there are folks who say there is no difference in sound quality between CD players (it's all 1's and 0's), however, I disagree. My CA9ES CD player is great. Sound quality is superior to that of the highly touted Cambridge which I bought but returned. My DVP9000ES is awesome. Sound quality is superb. I also have a 300 or 400 CD "jukebox" EX CD Player, love it. Anyway, I look for used Sony "ES" products in my local recycler and Penny Saver, buy them for a song whenever I can. I give them 5 stars out of 5. Enjoy the Music. Trust your ears. Laugh at Folks Who Claim to Know it All.
