Thasp, I used an Onkyo 797 as a processor with outboard amps, I also used a Sony STRDB 1070 as a processor also with outboard amps, a high quality processor makes an enormous difference to sound quality!
I agree with you about Outlaw products. I heard a set up with the same speakers I use driven by an Outlaw 1050 receiver. It sounded great. Their 950 processor is also excellent. I'd go with their processor and high quality used amps instead of a low quality receiver's processor section and an expensive multichannel amp.
