There are still big debates going on about center channels. Companies with small mains can use them interchangeably as L/C/R with no problems, and you can do that with any of the Axiom bookshelves as well, but anything over M2 tends to get noticed when you use it as a center.

Some companies believe in porting their centers, others (including Axiom) do not. A ported center is probably easier to use as a main but you still don't see that very often.
