Good morning all, My wife is at her Kickboxing class, and the kids are asleep. It seemed a thread for everyone to chime in with what he will do with his EP-600 would be fun.

PLUS ... we need to harass Amie into picking a time for the drawing ...

Good morning back atcha.

You've seen my room. While there may be "no such thing as overkill," I don't think a 600 would even fit in my overstuffed room. However, the 500 would fit in my room very nicely, thank you very much , and would satisfy my insane craving for "lower, and deeper." (I don't really need louder. Neighbors, ya know)

Not really sure what I'd do with the remaining $600 credit, maybe a set of M3s for my bedroom setup, and some of that lovely speaker wire, and some interconnects. If I can't come up with something I REALLY want, I'd like it to go to the charity.

Draw it at 8am! 8am! 8am! Do you think Ian's mom will be up that early?

Hey guys... good morning! I have been watching Sesame street with my grandson and we have been counting chickens. I don't want to count my chickens here but if I win I'm reallly not sure what I would do. I'm still on the fence between the 60's and 80's so a pair of one of those would be definite. I just have to make up my mind. I'm probably leaning towards the 60's at this point. With the rest I'm not sure if I should go with a smaller sub or a set of 22's for the bedroom.

" Do you think Ian's mom will be up that early?"

If she is as old as Jack, she will.

If I were to win, I too would probably go with the EP500 and then upgrade my VP100 to a VP150. The remainder of my credits, if possible, would then go to the food bank.
Are we going to do another one of these anytime soon? If so maybe the winner could choose the next charity.

IF i won it i'd have to put the 600 next to my right M60, which would put it next to the open door frame to the kitchen. which is convenient 'cause then i wouldn't have to scramble eggs or whip cream by hand anymore, i'd just have to put on U-571.

Whoa! I mean double Whoa! I think I may have missed something here. If I am reading this right, one can take a credit instead of the sub????? So, you can choose to purchase anything or not in lieu of the EP600???

You can purchase up to $1750 worth of Axiom speakers at the regular (non system) price. Accessories are not elegible..

For Example, If you wanted M-80's and an EP-500, they total $2390. ($1240 + $1150) ... Take a $1750 credit, and there would be a $640 balance. You would send a check for the $640 ....

I haven't won anything in a very long time; I think all of my luck was sucked up when I was a kid (barely avoided being destroyed a few times). Think I won a free Coke a couple of years ago, haha, that was exciting...

But if I did win I'd probably get an EP500 and a couple sets of M3s or something. I would LOVE to get the EP600, but for a university student it's just too big.

Aw man, now you guys got me thinking. I've tried not to visualize myself with a new EP600, because I don't want to start making plans for something I'm not gonna win. Now I find out I can use the prize amount as credit towards other Axiom stuff? No, not gonna think about it. . .

Well, maybe just a little.

Let's see--EP500 and a pair of M3s in a custom finish. . .

Craig,

WOW.

Now, on to the daydreaming task. I have the M22s/VP100/QS8, JBL PB-12 sub combination in a 12 x 20 ft living room. What, if anything, would make the greatest difference soundwise in my system?

Now this is interesting indeed.
Time to start thinking of additional axioms with my credit that I am sure to win.

I'd take the 600 BUT I'm not sure if I'd want the vertical or horizontal. I would have to get some advice from the axiomites around here.

Then I would have to upgrade my CC (vp 150)and probably my fronts....... ahhh yes M60 rears and M80 fronts.......

of course I would have to wait to see the new products coming this fall.......

I better have my morning coffee now... dream time is over

Would it be possible if one were to win to take the EP500 and give the difference to the charity?

Stop being all nice and stuff. You're making the rest of us greedy bastards look bad.

Me, I'm thinking EP500, a pair of M3s for the back room, and maybe some M2s for the kitchen.

I'm not speaking to you Curtis. You actually supported Grandarf in that thread over at AVS (or so it seemed to me )

Yes, you can go with the EP500, and donate the rest to charity. However, if you'll read Craig's post at the top of this page, you'll see the winner can apply the credit to any of Axioms speakers. You might want to get a pair of bookshelves or something, in addition to the EP500.

There is a horizontal 600 as well? I thought it was just vertical. Are you just laying the veritcal on it's side, or is it a different design?

Just laying the 600 on its side. I think there's a few pictures of Amie and Ian's floating around. Look for the thing that looks like a center channel on the floor. It isn't...

Here it is:

Since I already won the M3's I'm using from the last Axiom contest, I think it's only fair that I should win this one too.

Seriously thou, I'm too afraid to measure my existing sub's spot... cause I'd really love to have the 600 but I donno if it would fit. I guess I'd prolly say 600 or 500+M60's for me.

I just supported Grandarf's opinion and how he formulated it. I didn't think he was attacking any one company. Once thread participants view posts as attacks and defends....the thread is useless and goes in circles. Anyways...enough said. The thread died and I think that is good.

As for the raffle...I have no room for more speakers..or a sub for that matter. I have thought about getting a set of speakers for one of my brothers if I did win.

Curtis - He formulated a statement that "Axiom posted its own measurements because they were not happy with the Soundstage results" of the M-60's and M-80's. That statement was untrue. Axiom posted measurements from the NRC of products which have been improved in the years since the SoundStage measurements were done. Get it ?

Next - He then had a problem with Axiom posting both Anechoic and In room sensitivity specs. There are quite a few companies who do the same. Somehow, I never saw you respond to his problem with that. Even YOUR favorite company quotes both.

Next, He said he would "point out ANY company who had measurements which did not live up to published specs", yet he did no such thing until examples were put under his nose.

But, it is a free country. If you like how Grandarf views things, good for you ...

Well I saw it differently, and am surprised you didn't.

From his first post in the thread.

"One thing that keeps popping up thru my mind as I read about these incorrect measurements is how quickly people seem to jump to the conclusion that the measurements are flawed and that the correct measurements are those advertised by the speaker manufacturer.

Take Axiom, measured by a respectable company, which has no reason to publish either positive or negative reviews, and they come up with Graph A for m80ti. Some find offense, and claim that this measurement was done with an old version of the speaker, and point to a graph B, this time performed by the speaker manufacturer himself is the correct measurement!

There's a saying, "if you don't like the measured FR of a speaker, move the microphone". Personaly, I would take any graph/stat from a manufacturer with a grain of salt, for the simple reason that its to their advantage that they display the most positive information possible, even if its not totally true..

Take Axiom's M3TI, from soundstage's measurements, they are +/- 4dB from 70hz to 20... They claim +/- 3dB from 60-22.. I'm fairly sure most manufacturers do things like to an extent...

They also show two stats for speaker sensitivity, one for 'in room', another for anechoic.. Shouldn't speaker sensitivity always be measured in anechoic? What is the point in showing "in room"? In what room? In my room? In their room? In room of what size? It makes no sens... I guess its just to 'confuse' people, so that when looking at the stats, they see an 91dB efficiency speaker instead of an inefficient 88dB...

Anyhow, for the m80ti graph's, I'd wait for a third party measurement before believing that the FR has so drastically changed.. Not that I believe that its impossible that is has, but until we can see it from an unbiased source, I'd be hesitant to believe the graphs by the manufacturer, because in the end, their interest lies into showing the most possible positive graph they can find, not the most accurate...
"

Isn't he implying that graphs published by Ascend, or, for that matter, ANY manufacturer, are unreliable, and unworthy of the public's trust?

From another of his posts:

"Axiom might specify that they want measurements to publish on their website, vs measurements for their technical staff... I have no clue, then if the measurements for publishing aren't to Axiom's liking, then they can have them redo the tests, or just go to another company which will provide them with better graphs.

But the point is, that in the end, Axiom has control of the test results, and whether or not they are published... Why don't they have measurements for their other models? They haven't been measured? The results weren't to Axiom's liking? I won't pretend to know things I don't, but third party results is more credible than the company who would benefit/profit from sweetened results...

Could you tell me exactly how many times Axiom has their speakers measured? And if they have published ALL of those results no matter how unflattering they were? No one can be sure of that besides Axiom, so as I said, I prefer to remain objective and not jump to conclusions...
"

Do you really believe that Axiom manipulates the graphs measured by the NRC? Do you really think it would be good business to do so? What do you think would happen if that came out?

I must disagree with you, Curtis. I strongly feel he was attacking Axiom specifically, and virtually all manufacturers in general.

Saturday afternoon to ya'll from Texas. My house would collapse under the vibration from a 600 so when I win, I think I'll get a 500, 150 & 8s. Although we do know that everything is bigger in Texas so maybe I'll put it in the back of my pickup, hook it up and bounce up and down along 610!!! hmmmm. :-)

You're right it is...so why is it such a big deal? If you do not like someone's opinion...don't counter with another opinion...counter with fact.

For the record....I didn't say that I agree with Grandarf, I said I support that he has his own opinion and how he got there. Just as we all say...day in and day out. To prove him wrong, you need to show him hard evidence, not just another opinion. That is when things go in circles.

Ask yourself one question: If he had replaced the examples used with different brands, would the discussion been any different? If so, why? If not, why not?

I do support this statement: "Not all speaker manufacturer advertised specs are truthful."

That's one of my possibilities too, but the M50's would be for my brother along with my current VTF-2 Mk2. Must stop daydreaming now.

Hi everyone, I got in for 2 tickets when I saw it over at avsforum. I wanted to say this contest was a great idea. Its for a good cause and it at least in my case, brought Axiom speakers to my attention for the first time. Before the contest, I only knew of Axiom from the Audiolics review of the EP500. Now, for the if I win question, since I'm just getting into this and my current speakers are pretty poor, I'd go for the Epic 50 or 60 package with the EP500 and happily pay the difference so I could have a real home theater

Curtis, Had he used several different companies along with Axiom, yes, the discussion would have been different. He would have come across as reasonable.

Also, it is pretty well known that a flat frequency response does not mean great sound, and that a curvy response does not mean a speaker is a bad design. If it did, Magnepan, Quad, Sonus Faber and JM Labs, ALL would be gone.

For the record, I did respond with fact, but Grandarf would not accept anything short of a link to the NRC stating they tested the product. The NRC offers no such thing.

It is a fact that Axiom does all its measurements at the NRC.

OK...that is fair. He made the mistake of not using other companies as well, and nobodyelse did either. And when he did...it was disregarded because the discussion was already heated and focused.

A fact is something you can be substantiated. That is what Grandarf is looking for. So if the NRC said "we do all of Axiom's measurements, and the posted measurements from Axiom were indeed taken by us"...then Grandarf would have to take that as fact.

Just my opinion, but if someone expresses an opinion that a company or person is engaging in unethical behavior, THAT person is the one who should provide the evidence. To express such an opinion WITHOUT evidence is irresponsible at best, and maliciously libelous at the worst. Innocent until proven guilty.

HIS evidence is a 4 year old graph of a speaker that has undergone changes and improvements. The graph of the current M80 IS evidence that he, and others simply refuse to accept, based on implications of possible unethical behavior, i.e, the manipulation of NRC graphs. I ask the question again. Do you really believe Axiom manipulated the current NRC graphs?

(I want to make it clear that Curtis has NEVER stated or implied that Axiom manipulated the current NRC graphs. I'm merely asking if he agrees with Grandarf's speculation that that is a possibility.)

Oh..you are asking me?

No..I do not think Axiom manipulated data, but I can't prove that. I can show that other company's specs do not meet independent party's measurements.

All he had to go on is what is posted by an independent party.

Dam, a thread somewhere that involved arguing, opinions, invalidated thoughts, speculation.................and I didn't get to post once in it. I'm getting old. In my younger day's, I never would have missed it!

This thread you guys are talking about sounds similar to what I went off about regarding the EP500 when it first came out. Which by the way, I never did get an answer on!!!!!! ..........but that is water under the bridge!

Regardless of what the old or current graph says, I love the clarity of my M80's. And that's what it really comes down to. Who cares that it is 1db quieter at 30Hz than the next speaker. Put me in a room with a blindfold and a blank cheque and who knows what I'd take home!?!?!

Now when I win the 600 tomorrow, I'm driving the two and a half hours to Dwight first thing Monday morning to get that baby! Does the Golden Ticket include an overnight at Ian & Amie's?

Curtis, Grandarf was not interested in facts, period. He made a clear attack when he started with the "Axiom posted its own measurements because it did not like the ones SoundStage posted". In our society, the burden of PROOF lies with the ACCUSER for a reason. If the burden of proof lies with the attackee, then we are in deep trouble.

HE made a statement/attack with ZERO evidence.

THEN he said it was up to Axiom to disprove his claim.

IT is like the old question: "So tell me Curtis, when did you stop beating your child?"

Assumption of wrong doing is not how we conduct our society.

like I said....circles...

If I remember correctly...he started with the M3 listed specs and Soundstage measurements.

edit...I was wrong..he did start with the M80.

Can you please bring this back to the thread it started in instead of spilling it over to this one.

I barely have enough room in here as it is!

After next week I'll be moving into a new apartment. Upstairs, no less. People down below will have to look out. My VTF 3Mk II is very capable.

That EP600 would sure be sweet though. . .

I think I would downgrade to the 500, and get another five Axioms to create a 5.1 system for my brother and his family in Amherst, Mass. Only if I knew they would use it...they watch TV with the volume very low.

If that doesn'w work out, then I would replace my other brother's and sister-in-law's little 5.1 Klipsch setup.....I know they will use it.

Greetings! Nice lil side effect of a raffle for charity is new blood for Axiom.

I would send a check for $50 and get 12 M3ti's and and make a true surround sound system!!

Either that or. . I would send a check for $200 and get three EP350 so that I would have four 12" subs in my room. I would put one in each corner and then see if they could make me ill with bass.

Or I may send a check for $50 and get 4 M60ti's and start a mini Tharkun system. . . .hmmmmm

Or I could send a check for $250 then sell my hsu sub and get 5 EP175's. . . .one for each speaker in my setup. . . . hmmm

Or, this is it, I could send a check for $180 and get one M80ti, one M60ti, one M50ti, one M22ti, one M3ti, and one M2i. This way I could tell you what sounds the best if you only have one speaker . . . .

OK so I am running out of ideas but this sure is fun. . .

Honestly . . .either just tell the wife that this is my hobby and she will just have to deal with the EP600 or get the EP500 and a pair of QS8's or something.

Good luck to all

All day I resisted grabbing a pen (can't do math in my head) to figure out all the different set-ups and configurations possible. No need to get my hopes up.

You're making it tough, though.

For some reason my sleep was disturbed by anticipation. I had to rise and rush to the computer so I could congratulate the winner. But, since the winning # hasn't been drawn yet, we all get a reprieve.

I have NOT announced my victory. Where did I do that? I simply questioned whether the 87 year old selector could be influenced. I never said, or implied, that I would be doing the influencing. But, now that I think about it.............

Do you think I can make it up to Dwight BEFORE the drawing? Do you think begging, crawling, whimpering, crying would do the trick? How 'bout chocolate?

Chocolate might do it. I have the advantage-I have Scharfenberger! Muah ha ha!

Unfortunately, there's no way for me to get from Oakland to Dwight in enough time. Durn.

Nor uncalled for.

IT could also be that Ian and Amie are enjoying the lake today. About 10:56 tonight, Amie will suddenly realize she forgot the drawing ... and will drop a cute note to us all, and the drawing takes place Monday ...

Also, depending on where Ian's mom spent last night..... there is probably at least an 8 hour drive for her today.

I believe she was driving back from New Brunswick, and probably wasn't going to do it in "one" shot.

All of Ian's mom's travel plans were in the original raffle thread ("start of something..."). She offered to do the draw but would be away until the 24th.

I expect Amie et al figured we would assume "back on the 24th, draw on the 25th" while we figured "back on the 24th, draw a name, then get out of the car"

I dunno, there was enough "it's on the 24th!" going around for Amie to have nipped that idea in the bud. Maybe they just need to get off work and get back to the lake house to do it. Drive faster, Amie!

It might be like timing an encore... the band waits until the audience hollering and stomping starts to die down a bit... THEN they go back on stage.

You know what to do. Put the thread down and walk away slowly.

Quote - "Well, if everyone can wait until July 24th, I was thinking we should have Axiom's longest-standing, most loyal employee do the drawing. Whaddaya say - do we vote for Ian's mother to do the drawing?

Here is Amie's post about Ian's Mom. I am sure we will here something either later tonight or tomorrow. I bet we can even get Axiom to toss in FREE shipping now ...

I have a sneaking suspicion we misinterpreted what Amie was saying. Ian's Mom returns today. It's only logical that the drawing wouldn't take place until business resumes on Monday, at the earliest. It may take a day or two to set up the drawing, etc. No big deal. I don't mind waiting an extra day or two to get my EP500. It's gonna fit over in that corner so perfectly

(Can't hurt to think positively, even if the odds are against me )

I thought all she would do is pick a number between 1 and 100.

Out of her head? (I hope not. That allows number bias to come into play) Pieces of paper out of a hat? Numbered balls? What? Regardless, some preparation is necessary.

Seems logical to me that the drawing wouldn't take place on a weekend? They aren't working on the weekend. As I implied the drawing may take place tomorrow. It may not. No big deal either way.

Nice Craig..........an attack maybe?

If she doesn't know any of us, and/or hasn't read the thread, I figured just asking her for a number would be fair....and easy.

Then again, drawing numbers out of hat would be completely a game a chance.

I remember reading somewhere that people choosing a number from a range (particularly a fairly broad one) are more likely to pick a number nearer the middle of the range, not a truly random number. That wouldn't be real fair to the earliest and latest ticket buyers...

... but it would be mighty fine for Curtis with ticket #41. Busted !!!

Curtis, I have never won a raffle. I somehow don't think this one will be different ... Luckily, I already have an EP-600 paid for ....

For the LOW, LOW price of $1750, you could too !

Craig, I do not know who your computer guru is over here.
But I am quite into computers, moreso than audio.
There are a few at Audioholics, but I don't see them post much and help.
This is basically a reply to the purple hair thing... Super easy to do, but quite funny......

At least Craig's ... um.... muzzle matches better this time. In the original pic, it was clear he needed to pick up some of that purple Grecian Formula to keep the beard better matched to the hair.

I'm new around here but sure seems like you guys are mean to Craig. j/k I hope we find out something soon, all this suspense is leading to a very unproductive morning at work. Between the checking this thread for updates and composing my "I win you lose, better luck next time" acceptance post I haven't managed to do much else.

Yesterday we were mean to Craig. Today we'll be on good behaviour. Tomorrow we'll probably be mean to someone else. Once you have been on the board for a while and we feel we know you, we'll probably be mean to you as well
