I have a built in entertainment center in my house. The nitches for left and right fronts are 24"L x 12"H x 24"D. This leaves me with little option other than to lay the speaker on it's side. I am looking at Axiom M22ti's. Is horizontally placing th M22 going to create any major issues or is there anything I need to do to the speaker.

I'll suggest that you think about using the M2i rather than position the M22ti incorrectly. Either that or you and a saw should spend some quality time with the entertainment centre.

Don't think that is a choice after just spending $5000 to have it built. It was also brought to my attention on another board that a rear ported speaker would be a bad choice for a nitch. Looks like I will look elswhere. Thanks!

You spent $5000 to have a home entertainment system built that will only accommodate L/R speakers that are 12" high?! Too bad a little forsight didn't go into the design before you laid down your $5000.
Maybe try some floorstanding speakers and use the speaker space in the unit you had built for storing ceedees, LPs and movies.
Good luck.

baja,
In fact, "niche" placing is not very good for ANY speakers, front ported, rear ported, or sealed. The majority of speakers (either bookself, despite the name, or floorstander) sound best when placed alone away from the surroundings as much as possible. If you have to place M22's or M2's on those shelves, I suggest you empty other shelves immediately next to and above/below the speakers as much as possible.
Horizontal placing of M2/M22 does not cause any physical problems. But horizontal treble dispersion would be more limited and become asymmetric from the right to left per speaker. It may adversely affect the soundstage rendering.
