Just wanted to share a funny conversation I just had with a local high-end electronics outfit. As of last week, I have been in the market for a Denon 4806 and have requested quotes from various retailers, including one from a very reputable highend electronics store in San Antonio. Most of the quotes were pretty high so I began considering ebay and just when I was about to place a bid my phone rings. Its a rep from up north. He quotes me a price, shipping included, and without hesitation, I make the purchase. The price, less than those selling on ebay.
This morning I get a call from the San Antonio store. I inform him that I had already made the purchase and he kindly asks the price. I tell him. In a voice of disbelief he repeats the price, followed by "That's a really great price." For once, I come away from a purchase feeling pretty good.
I don't want to mention dealers here but if anyone is interested feel free to email me.

Good Show!
Nice to know there are still good deals out there if we just want to take to time to make a few phone calls(if we're not just too lazy to make the effort!)
Good to know that extra effort can still be rewarded

Don...
I, too, am in San Antonio and know the store of which you speak. All I've ever bought from them is a Harmony remote because their business model just doesn't allow them to compete with web-based retailers. On some level I feel for their sales people because every time I go in there I get treated with respect by knowledgeable people that are selling good products (you could do a lot worse than a Denon/Def Tech system).
At some point, if you are willing, I may want to bring a friend by to listen to your system (specifically the VP150 and QS8s) because I have recommended Axiom to him - but it will be a while as he has "sailboat upgradeitis issues" to deal with first.
Also, I don't think anybody would have a problem if you listed the price and source of your new 4806.

Foghorn,
Not a problem. Welcome to audition them anytime, just send me a pm whenever you are ready and we can discuss dates and time.
As for listing prices, it was 2598, which included shipping via ups. Should arrive Friday. About listing the dealer, I'm a bit leary about that due to the price. I used to sell coffee specialty products and many manufacturers strongly discouraged discounting their products in order to protect their distributors. Denon seems to be of that type so I'd rather not list the name. PM me and I'll be happy to provide the dealer.

Don,
Thanks for the (solicited) invite. I'll PM you when the time comes. What general part of the city/area do you live in?
