2 Questions Regarding EP500 Settings

Where is your Sub volume on the Sub Amp?

7:00 or less
8:00
9:00 (Half)
Greater than 9:00

Where is your Trim setting?

Flat
Half
Full

When I am using my SPL meter to 75 db, My receiver is at -10 w/all other speakers around +6 and the Sub is still registering 5-10 DB above the others on the meter!! AND my sub volume is at 8:00 (less than half)

Thanks for feedback.

You should leave your trim/boost setting at flat. Where you set your volume is completely dependent upon the size of your room and the equipment you're hooking it up to.

When I helped Dennis (a.k.a. Tharkun) set up and calibrate his dual EP600s, we had to set them so low that the volume was practically at zero. And let me tell you, those volume knobs are quite finicky around the zero level.

I have two of them, both volumes are about as low as I could get sound out of them, about 6:00. My amp is at -5db for the subs and about 0 to +1.5 db for the other channels.

As Peter said, the controls are a little sensitive, it's a fine line between too much and too little (where the sub cuts off).

I have my front wall sub at half and the rear at flat. These aren't meant for volume control in general, but a frequency boost at 35 Hz to compensate for nulls in smaller rooms. Leave them at flat for the levels calibration.

Thanks all. One last question- Does it make a difference if the volume on the sub is super low, but then the receiver volume is in line w/the other speakers? I'm not loosing any of the power of the sub by simply having the receiver volume "turn up" a sub that is already turned "way down". Does that make sense?

I'm not 100% sure but, I believe the preferred setting on the receiver would be 0 and the sub turned up to what you need it to be. If you have to turn the sub above 1/2 then you would want to turn the receiver up a little until and turn the sub back down. That way you will be able to adjust the sub up or down from the receiver +/- whatever your source material needs. But in all reality, it probably doesn't matter.

Thanks to everyone who chimed in. As a result, all of my speakers are between -2 and +2 on the receiver. Sub as at 0 on the receiver w/the sub volume knob at about 7:30. Fantastic results. I think I am finally at peace..........Now time to start looking at DLP Tv's and 5 channel amps!!
