I'm narrowed my selection of new receiver to the Denon 2805 or 3805. Factory refurbished units are available for $590 and $700 respectively, plus shipping. I'm interested in your thoughts regarding the two units. I have a relatively large room, and I will not use the receiver for video switching. Is it worth the extra $110 for the 3805? Thanks.

Dan, in my view the 2805 would be the better buy. The 10 additional watts on the 3805 would allow less than 0.5dB of additional sound output at peaks and wouldn't likely be of any significance. The Denon link on the 3805 wouldn't be useful unless you also bought one of the relatively expensive Denon players which had a Denon link output for single cable DVD-A/ SACD. Note that the 2805 includes the calibration/equalization microphone which is about $60 extra for the 3805. Unless there's some other feature which is important to you, save the money for something else(e.g. more CDs or DVDs).

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.

Since I use Outlaw monoblocks across the front, if I had it to do again I would have bought the refurbed 2805.

Thanks to both of you.
I was leaning towards the 2805, and now have one on order. Another couple of weeks and I'll be watching movies again!
