My current set up is 2-M60's, 1-VP 150, 2-Qs4's as side surrounds and 2 Definitive Technology BP surrounds as rears, SVS sub in a 7.1 set up. Having just recently done some fairly sextensive sound treatments to my theater I am extremely happy with the results.

I can't get a response in the Ask Axiom owners forum so thought I would pose my question here.

My thoughts are to sell the Def Tech's, move the QS4's to the rear and purchase a pair of QS 8's for the side surrounds. Obviously, I won't get $500 for my BP's so does anyone have an opinion on whether that change will result in any sound improvement?

It looks like there are 5 different models of the BP surrounds, ranging from fairly small to mighty impressive. Which ones do you have ?

M5HP, M40ti, Sierra-1

Dave(watch those "sextensive" treatments)it'll be difficult at best for any of us to come up with a helpful response without knowing, as John B. mentioned, what specific speaker you're using back there. A generalization would be that the very wide dispersion of the QSs is relatively less necessary at the rear than on the sides.

His list indicates BP1. I think current model is BP1.2.

sextensive? It was late. My mind must have been elsewhere. The speakers would be BP 1's which are the predecessor of the one mentioned.

Knowing that the rears are less critical is why i was going to move my QS4's to the rear and place the QS 8's on the side. I have some M2's in my office and thought of putting them on the rear wall but with a couch against the rear wall felt that might be too close to conisder direct raditating speakers.

You would have to check the specs on the BP1 model that you have and compare to the Axioms. On paper, the 1.2 model specs are very nice. The max amp ratings are not as high but freq. response of the BP may be better than the QS4 or 8.

I have enjoyed having the QS series as my backs. They probably don't add a great deal to the overall movie experience for 7.1 , but they don't take anything away. I like to play music in the 7-Stereo mode and they really are nice to have under those playing ocnditions. The size of the room might be something to think about. I know I have a lot of space in the "back area" where the dog hangs out, so I like having the extra sound back there when playing music. Dog seems to appreciate having those back there with him too! He's mostly a soft-clasical guy in the day time when at home alone.
