I'm not sure if this has been posted already but has anybody else been watching Best Buy? From what I can tell and talking to people in the audio industry they now own Denon, Marantz and as of about 6 months ago Boston Acoustics. I’m not talking shares, they own them outright.

Rumor has it they were also after Bose but Bose wouldn’t sell.

I can honestly say that I didn’t realize how deep Best Buys pockets are.

Can you cite a source on this? Looking at D&M Holding's About site, I do not see it as being owned by Best Buy, unless one of its major shareholders also owns Best Buy. Of course, I do not truly understand high finance and large multinationals, so maybe there's something I'm missing.

Most of it came from a Boston Acoustics rep who told me that they were bought out by Best Buy right around 6 months ago. He was also the fellow who told me just how big Best Buys stable is becoming.

Funny that Best Buy is now launching Denon in Canada. Boston Acoustics has been told by the powers that be to get out of Electronics......now Boston’s 2 receivers and most of the their electronics are being blown out. There top of the line receiver was selling for $3000.00 not long ago and now it’s being given away by most. Care to place a wager on how long it will be before Boston is sold in Best Buy?

It all makes sense and this guy has no reason or motivation to tell me this. I even went as far as to call a buddy of mine who works for Sony and he knew about Boston and wasn’t sure about Denon but did say it made sense as the rumor was going around about a year ago. Marantz however was something he hadn’t heard and he had no clue on.

I also don't get why D&M list Rio on the corporate page when they sold off most of it to SigmaTel almost a year ago?

Perhaps they are doing the same thing for whatever reason with the other brands? I honestly have no idea but it's darn interesting to think about.

John, I don't think that what the BA rep said is factual. If you take a look at this review of the D&M(Denon, Marantz, Boston Acoustics, etc.)first half fiscal 2006 results and scroll down to the discussion of activities you'll note a mention of a "strategic relationship" with Best Buy to have Denon S Series systems sold through Best Buy. Nothing as to any ownership factor.

I'm with you on this Ken, from the searches I'm seeing, if the info is accurate, its going to be one of the best kept secrets on the internet. lol
I do remember about 5 years ago both Denon and Marantz were bought out by Ripplewood, but have not kept current with that stuff since.
