Happy Birthday Ray!
Spend the day at a heated driving range?

Wow - what a nice and unexpected surprise!!!! I am overwhelmed and humbled by your kind wishes! Well, OK.....overwhelmed

As I read through your comments (and re-read a couple of times), it occurred to me that I have been absent in posting for quite awhile, much more so than I wanted to be. I will try to remedy that soon. Just to get you up to date (and bore you a bit), let me share a couple of things.

Most of you know we moved into the new (10 year old) house in June and while the house itself is terrific, the previous owner was devoid of the handyman gene. Between my daughter’s August wedding, things at work, my spare time being used to catch up on the handy man stuff and a bit of golf, there just hasn’t been a lot of time. I also need to find additional time to trim the hair in my nose & ears And I seem to constantly need to get up and get a fresh drool towel. Wrapped around all of this is a regular bout with narcolepsy every evening, seemingly triggered by a combination of my big easy chair and activating the remote.

Lately, work has settled a bit, the handyman stuff is just about behind me and the holidays are past. However, the house has an open floor plan and a great room that doesn’t lend itself to a 5.1 speaker array or a big screen TV. We’ve been limping along with a 42” plasma and some nice bookshelf speakers. Why am I telling you this?

Well, the first weekend in January arrived and I started the basement finishing project in earnest. The framing is done, the electric is roughed in and today I finished putting up the insulation. The drywall (along with the guys who are going to install it) will be here on Wednesday. This is the only piece I am farming out, but it’s cheap at three times the price. Along with noodling around in the basement (between naps), Debbie and I have shopped for and picked out furniture (arrives first week in May from North Carolina) and paint. The whole furniture shopping thing REALLY took a lot of time, especially since I have two poles to contend with in the basement.

The drywall should be ready to paint in about 10 days. Then we connect the electric (the room will be a wonder of X-10 automation), install the doors, door casings & molding and put in the drop ceiling. Still need to pick out carpeting.

I am hoping to be all done and waiting for furniture by the middle to end of March. THEN I can take my Home Theater stuff out of boxes and enjoy it.

Whew - all of this because you wished me a Happy Birthday! Believe me - much appreciated. Once I get the above all done, I’m hoping to get back in the swing of things on the forum. While I do check in every few days, I just miss playing in the sandbox with you folks.

There's probably more to talk about, but I just don't remember....

Ray:
Since these things always take a bit longer than scheduled, I wouldn't plan on inviting any of us out for your open house/round of golf anytime before April 15th!

Actually, I think we can pull it off. Couple hours each night makes a pretty good dent in the stuff. The guy working with me has the tools and the expertise, so the job is going very well.

Can't let it be much later than the end of March because golf season starts in April!

Happy birthday, Ray...

I'd ask how old you were, but someone'd have to cut your pegleg in half and count the rings.

Now that your birthday is almost over, there is only only one thing to SAY.
