How much extended warranty do you recommend on an AVR receiver and plasma display? Thanks!

This is just me, but I never buy extended warranties.

In general, I NEVER buy extended warranties, and I would pass on an extended warranty on an AVR. HOWEVER! Having had 3 service calls on my first HDTV, and after reading the threads and comments regarding others' experiences with all the new TV technologies (LCD, DLP, LCoS, Plasma), each of which seems to have its own particular set of growing problems, I think adding an extended warranty to a $3000 purchase which has parts that cost $1500 to $2000 to repair or replace, is a prudent move. I added a 5 year RepairMaster EW (which actually only adds 4 years to the manufacturers warranty) to my new Samsung DLP HDTV for an extra $200 at TVAuthority which is where I purchased the HDTV. Like most things on the internet, I've heard both good and bad about these warranties. If you think you'd be interested in one, DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE PURCHASING!

I'm in complete agreement with Jack on this one. I've purchased 2 Sony LCD RP tvs in the last couple of years, and bought the extended warranty on both. Having used it just once has already paid for itself on BOTH tvs. And I almost never buy extended warranties on things.
Take care, Rich

Although I have never bought an extended warranty and have been very fortunate to never have a piece of electronic equipment fail on me, I think if I was to go out and spend several thousand on some new technology I would consider a warranty. My problem has always been upgraditis, so I never seem to keep anything for more than a couple years before I upgrade, I guess that's why I have a garage full of used equipment

I totally agree with what has been posted.
Some credit cards double the warranty. I have one that does and I use it for all of my major purchases. You might consider this option, for free.
