alright here goes this is what I have in mind to do. I hate it when on the screen to my right say an explosion occurs and my sub which now is in the front on my far left ,well it produces then sound. although it fills the room but, I can tell it originated from the left. So here is my plan. 4 subs....2 EP 500's for up front 6ft apart on each side of the screen. Two Ep 350's in the rear in the corners about 1ft down the side wall. Ok, now I am going to use the subs cutoff on all subs, so on the left side I run the speaker wire from the left channel to the left channel on the subs filter then carry on to the speaker, same idea to the right. Then using the center channel I bi-wire and send one to the right sub using the left filter then over to the center channel. I then run the other wire from the centre channel to the left sub using the right filter connections then to the centre channel. Now for the rears, I run the left rear to the left sub on filter left and the left back to the subs right filter then proceed to the speakers. I would do the same to the opposite sides. I know this sounds confusing , but if I can draw it out and post it, it wouldn't be.
No when sound dialog or sound goes to the centre channel it would be filtered by both front sub cutoffs or if and explosion sonuds to the left speaker then only the left speaker would get the sound as it does but the left sub would only get the low frequencies therefore sound would come from over there. also if there is a low frequency signal to either left rear or left back speakers then the left rear sub would produce the low end. visa versa to to rights. I know that surrond backs produce the same mono track but later on when 7 channel encoding comes along I will be setup for it.
no I have distinct sound coming from distinct locations

If you go that route, be sure sure run your speakers as large and disable the .1 output (in other words, turn the sub to OFF in your speaker setup.) This will ensure that any dedicated .1 LFE material is mixed back into the front channels.

Didn't you just say your room was pretty small? I'd try one EP500 first, before buying 4 subs! Yeesh...

My guess is you have something setup incorrectly. LFE below 80hz is non-directional.

yes it is , but if the sub is on the left you can tell. Sound waves have to start travelling from some where.
And to the samll room I am not talking 4 ep600 or 500's I am thinking two EP500 up front and maybe two EP175 or EP 350's in the rear.
Yes, I know to turn off the .1 and set to large thanks though.
The idea of this is not to crank the subs up it is it distinguish a little the direction in relative to the room. Hypothetically speaking if you were walking down a street in Iraq ( maybe a bad example but and sorry if I offend anyone not my intention here ) and a car explodes to you right bihnd you. Do you hear the bomb to your from left ( low Frequencies ) no the generate from where it happened and evolve around you. this is the idea I am trying to create. I do not need a high level of bass and really only the channels that produce the low end are going to get it. there fore maybe only one sub will produce to lows not all four subs at once. Unless I have a BlackHawk above me relative to the tv and then all four subs would be producing

Just use the one EP 500 mid wall and set the M80s to large. The EP 175 is +/- 3dB @ 32HZ, the M80s are +/-3dB @ 34HZ. What would there to be gained with the 175s?

Many do this, and acheive great results. I'm sure after a while someone that is running this way may be along.
I agree that most people can't sense the directionality of sound below 80Hz (I don't), but I believe there are those that can and are bothered by this. Most might consider it overkill because of the added expense and work to get all the subs properly level balanced and setup in this kind of config- but if you are up to it, then yes it will work and can give you some extra SPL for the loudest scenes with full LFE + bass in the other main channels.
You will also need to properly set the phase for each of the subs. Each playing alone won't be a problem, but all together may cause cancelation issues if not done right.
What mains do you have? With M60s or M80s in the front, you'd easily be able to lower the crossover to 60 or maybe even 40Hz, making the bass even less directional, or as Rick pointed out- maybe just get 5 M80s and run everything full with no sub.

But Troy, deep bass IS nondirectional. It's only the upper harmonics that clue someone as to where the sound is coming from. You don't hear 40Hz as coming from anywhere, you hear the 200Hz accompanying sound to the left or right, for example...
You can spend your $$ how you wish, but nother option is to get a very good sub and if you honestly feel that you can hear where 70 Hz is coming from, simply crossover at 40Hz or so instead so you can feel better about it.
99% of HT owners have a single-sub, and they aren't wrong about where they hear the sound coming from. And I don't believe that we're talking "better" hearing here; it's a matter of physics.

yeh, I maybe over killing it .... I have 2 MT80's the EP175's were not for the front or even hooked up to the MT80's they were for the rear and in line with the qs8's. So when sound goes to the rear, so that when sound goes to either of the rears the sub in line would produce the low end. The MT80's wouldn't be producing sound.

Whenever I first bought our EP600 I did ask Axiom (Brent, I believe) about running our then current EP350 with the new 600 and was told that the 600 would overwhelm the 350 so much so that the combination wouldn't be worth the effort ... my understanding is that any 600/500 combination would work fine and any 350/175 combination would also work well together.
Brent(?) also told me that whenever he upgraded from the 350 to the 600 he did in fact connect the two together but the 350 just didn't have the umph to remotely keep up.
