After deciding to go with surrounds or sub first I decided to get the surrounds out of the way. I'm excited. I only have the M60ti, and VP150ti from the past few years and I'm just now getting surrounds! Buying a house next week so I want to get the wiring done and just enjoy the speakers. By the way, the V2 isn't any different from ti series right? I bought them back in 2004 if that makes any difference. I'll post some pics of the empty room where my home theater will be to get some ideas from you experts where I should best put my surrounds. I'm so excited!

Good decision, Eric. Yes, the v2 is essentially the same. I take it then that this isn't the room that we were discussing three weeks ago.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.

Yes, I believe its the room from few weeks ago under the Subwoofer vs surround thread. I want to take new pics with everything empty and mark spots to where they should go and see which one people think is best. Also I might have wiring problem since its concrete slab and there is a bedroom above the living room meaning I can't run wires under or above the room. I might have to run the wires on along the baseboard or get those plastic trim thingys which I hate to have visible on the wall.

If you feel you could handle it, you can always pull the baseboard off, run the wires in the gap between the flooring and the wallboard and then when you get to the point of the speakers, poke a hole through the wallboard(still below top of baseboard to keep it hidden), then fish the tape up to the speaker location. Now you can reinstall the baseboard and all the wiring is hidden.

I did this for some new cable runs for a couple of different rooms.

Wow, never thought of that. How hard is it to remove the baseboard? Also I might have problem with the left surround since its an open wall between the 2 surrounds, not sure if you can fish inside the wall horizontally between the surrounds.

That would depend on which way the ceiling joists run for the upstairs. If they are run in the same direction you need to go with the wire then you are ok as you could run the wire up to the ceiling and across to the next speaker but if they are perpendicular, you are looking at cutting into wall board, either on the ceiling or just the walls themselves and then drillling holes in the studs replacing wallboard, it gets very messy.

From the pics I think you might be out of luck, except for the messy part. You could paint the wires the same color as the wall and tack them in place very neatly to conceal them over to the next surround as an option. Latex paint is wonderful stuff, it sticks to almost anything.

I'm a little confused what you mean. lol Yeah, its the pic with the one with open kitchen and another opening to hallway on left side. Grrrr....I wish I had an attic above instead of a bedroom.

You can always use flat speaker wire like this for the horizontal run to the speakers (or even up the wall from the baseboards for that matter). Just Google "flat speaker wire" and you'll get lots of hits. The link I provided is one of the more expensive, but not necessarily better, manufacturers.

What I meant was for a horizontal wire run in the wall would mean opening up the wall and drilling through studs(as they always run vertically in the wall), pulling the wire through the holes to the next speaker and then reinstalling the drywall which then needs to be mudded and taped to hide the cut lines.

I just ran new wiring out to my garage and had to remove a 16' long run of drywall so I could drill holes in the studs to enable me to pull the new power lines through the wall to the new outlet near the door. I am now waiting for the mud to dry on the first coat of tape to reseal my cutlines. Wish I took some pics for you.
