But the B&W suggestion implies that the voltage gain itself would be a major benefit, and someone reading that who wasn't aware of the technology involved might think that the sub would have its ultimate level capability increased by 6dB.

B&W could have done a better job of explaining it. The 6dB voltage gain results in a higher signal to noise ratio for certain noise modes (it would do nothing for common mode noise for example).

Right; the polarities of the two incoming voltages remain the same with respect to each other, even when they're inverted, so no noise cancellation(as would occur e.g. in a balanced input circuit)would take place.
