Ctown came over this week-end and told my wife how great a programmable remote is. Now my wife wants one so she and the rest of my family can turn the A/V gear on.
I don't want to spend more than $100 on this. I want something that will have all the codes for my receiver, TV and DVD player and I can program it for single button access to radio, TV or DVD. What would you recommend? I'd rather not have to research this to death either because it's not something that's near and dear to my heart. Thanks.

I have the Harmony 659 and have been quite pleased with it. Easy to program and super easy to operate.

I have a spare harmony 550 you can try out to see if you like the programming, use, etc, but I would recommend the other styles due to the small shallow buttons on the 550. Then again you don't have litle ones like I do. If you liked the 550 I might just let you have it.

Jason, Wow, thanks. I'd love to try it out. Nothing's free in this world though so I'll certainly give you something for your Axiom fund .

I have the logitech harmony 880. Dead simple to program since it's all done on the PC. It's generally met with high WAF too! I think you can get them for just a little over $100.

I have the Harmony 1000, which is an upgrade from my Sony RM-AV3000(which I still have) and I find it to be an excellent remote, foolproof to setup using the computer and a breeze to operate. I know it's out of the price range that you mentioned, but it might be plausible down the road. The web site remotecentral.com is an excellent resource with reviews etc. Here's the link: remote central

Mojo, I just checked eBay for you and there are lots of used and refurbished Harmony remotes for less then $100. It's an alternative if you don't get one for free.

Yeah, from the research I did, I would say a Harmony 659, 628, or 676 would be fine. I think Jason got a good deal on a 676 from Visions. I just got my 670 from Dell with rechargeable batteries for $99 and its great, but the button layout is really good for those of us that use our DVR's a lot. here is a great link with pics and descriptions. http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/mboard/rc-harmony/thread.cgi?4251

FYI Costco has the 880 for $169.00. It has the color screen and rechargeable batteries. I have it and the 659 and like the 880 a little better.
