I have an opportunity to buy an older HK avr325 for $200. It does everything my pioneer vsx515 does and more. I'm sure there will be a sound improvement, but I mainly want to save money on the receiver and put the $$ towards m80s. I read that HK can push 4ohm, but I just want to see if anyone has any feedback pairing the avr325 with the m80. If anyone knows as well, if I could use 2 of the 7 channels for bi-amping the front. Thanks!

I have the 525, which works pretty well with my M80s. Of course, I don't turn up the volume very loud.
As for your second question, no, and it wouldn't do you much good anyway if it did.

R2K, if you want the M80s, get them and don't assume that your present amplification won't be adequate. If you want to make a change later, deals can always be found.

I have an old HK AVR55 with the M80 v2. I can make the window panes shake if I want. No problems whatsoever. Get the M80s. You will NOT regret the decision.

JohnK, that is a very good point, what sparked me to upgrade was that my mother-in-law brought over "Blue Man Group, The Complex" and was not impressed. She has a no frills Denon amp and Paradigm bookshelves, and to her, the mids were lacking in my setup(M22's, infinity sub ps10sub, polk rears). My other thoughts were that I recently swapped out the digital coax from my dvd to receiever and on The Complex, the audio seem to drop at some points, I'll check that as well. Nevertheless my ego was bruised and the HK should fix.

My mother in law thinks that sound from a table top, 1 speaker radio is all you need. Of course she has never recovered from the time I convinced her that a Jalapeño was just a new kind of pickle.
With great power comes Awesome irresponsibility.

Which model of Paradigm bookshelves? Some of their intermediate sizes are very, very good.

her setup is a Denon PMA 320 integrated amp and Paradigm 3se bookshelves, and a average dvd player. She had them since the early 90's. Right now shes looking for a new pair of speakers. the HK receiver deal fell through, and I've been eying the Panasonic xr57, and I ended up ordering. Even though it doesnt support 4ohm, i decided to find something when im ready for m80's. WAF said it wont happen until we get a new house though.
