There aren't too many separate pre/pros in $1000-ish range -- the Outlaw 950 and, if you can stretch the budget a little, the Rotel 1066 comes to mind. But in my opinion, the latest AV receivers are no lesser as pre/pro in this price range -- such as the Pioneer Elite 55TXi and Yamaha 2400, both brand new models with an automatic room/speaker calibrator-equalizer.

Thanks, Is it me or does none of the two have an input for PHONO? I have a REGA P25 and when I have visitor, their jaws and ears just drop in awe. Some go scrambling to their attics for their old LP's.

Yes, the Pioneer 55TXi and Yamaha 2400 both have a PHONO input (MM).
