Hello Everyone!
I’m planning to upgrade my home theatre to 7.1 HT system in this summer. I’ve been reading this forum for months and today I decide to join in for asking your expert help. In short, my room dimensions are: L14’9” X W10’2” X H8’ and I’ve already bought the Yamaha HTR6190B Receiver – whose specs are similar to Yamaha RXV1800B
(Please check this here: http://www.yamaha.ca/av/Receivers/HTR6190B.jsp#specs ).

Since my room is small, therefore I was thinking to order the following speakers from Axiom Store:
a) 1 VP100 Center
b) 2 pairs of QS4 Surrounds
c) 1 EP175 Powered Subwoofer

At this moment, I don’t know how to choose Axiom front speakers for my HT system – whether they should be bookshelf or floor-standing speakers? Are these Axiom magnetic shield speakers that can be placed near my LCD TV? Another question is will EP175 Subwoofer be powerful enough to shake my floor – which I always preferred for watching action movies. Also, has anyone of you had room size like mine? If you do, please tell me which Axiom speakers you owned right now for listening Jazz and watching action movies. My budget is limited to $2500 before including taxes and I’m living in Toronto.

Your expert input and advice are much appreciated.
Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.

I would go M22s up front and bump up the sub to the EP350v3, it is a great subwoofer that will shake the floor. The EP175 has been said to not have the power to do this. I have heard and felt the EP350 and it will do what you are looking for. I would also bump the QS's up to the QS8s as they are a slightly better performer and worth the upgrade.

For floorstanders I would go M80s and stay the course for the other speakers as I mentioned above. From the Factory Outlet this comes to $2416 and you will not be disappointed by this system.

If it is going to be used Strictly for HT I would get the vp150 center. Dialog is the most important thing...I think...? \:\)

While I hardly qualify for giving "expert advice", first thing I'd change is to make it a 5.1 system, and use the money to upgrade to QS8's or a better sub.

There aren't that many 7.1 soundtracks, and you don't really need the extra speakers in a smallish room.

Agreed with jason and zhimbo. That's a smallish room, and does not need 7.1.

Bump the surrounds to QS8s (only one pair)
One EP350
Pair of M22s.

If you buy factory outlet, you still have about $500 left in your budget.

Also, LCDs are not prone to magnetic interference. No need to worry about shielding.

My choice would be - M60's, Vp150, Qs8's and an EP350 for 2305.65 from the factory outlet. This would be a killer setup.

Mine would be too if the room wasn't 15x10'. The M22s would fit that size room nicely.

To make it totally confusing I guess I should recommend the M2 or M3. ;\)

Given your choice of avr, I don't know about the M80. There was a recent poster here that had issues with the RXV1800 handling the 4ohm load of the M80.

Either the M22 or the M60 would be a good choice for fronts, and I would agree with others that suggest the EP350 over the 175. It seems to be a much better bang for the buck.

I listened to the 175 in a 20x10x8 room and it really didn't have much punch.

Hi!
First of all, I’d like to thank all of you for your replies and I’m sorry for wasting your time to answer all my questions. Here is the following I’m going to order from Axiom store next week:

1) One pair of M22s, took advice from SRoode and Fredk
2) One VP150, took advice from Turbo16v and HomeDad
3) One pair of QS8s, took advice from Jakewash and Zhimbo
4) One EP350 subwoofer, took advices from all of you.

And I agreed with Jason, Zhimbo and SRoode, I should go for 5.1 system since my room is relatively small.

Again, thank you guys. Have a great weekend.
