Hi all
I am about to buy a soundcard for my laptop - this is going to allow me to get rid of my PC and save some space. Currently I am sending digital optical toslink from my PC to my receiver for Napster and Pandora and it works wonderfully ( with a 25 dollar card which somebody on this site helpfully recommended )

It looks like everybody gets a Creative Audigy card - sounds good to me ( if a little more pricey) but a little concerned about the messages on their website about not feeding digital for DRM protected music. Anybody got any experience with this? Will it be a problem for Pandora or Napster - I really want to feed digital to receiver
thanks as always
Peter

Creative isn't exactly the best company out there, especially their drivers. You also have to be careful you're not buying a crippled processor from them (the SE line springs to mind...). I'd look for a different option, perhaps a USB->digital out dongle.

Thanks for the feedback - got a specific product in mind?

I always wondered whether I really needed an audio card just to get the digital signal out of the computer.

I don't use one myself, so I hesitate to recommend anything. John?

Peter, what I've been using the past few years to listen to streaming classical music stations from all over the world on my HT setup is the Xitel HiFi Link . This is basically a cable that plugs into the USB port on my laptop to pick up the digital output, then a DAC to convert to analog and another cable to feed the regular L/R analog inputs on one of my receivers(none of them have a USB input port). Simple and works well, of course.

Another device that plugs into the USB port on the laptop is the Turtle Beach Micro , which takes the digital USB output, adapts it to an optical digital cable, which then feeds the optical input on the receiver, as usual.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.

Many Thanks JohnK - the second option is exactly what I need given that I have already installed a digital cable to the receeiver.
