I currently have a pair of M60s used in my den. I am about to finish my dedicated home theater in the basement. The size of the basement theater is 24x17x10(with a tray ceiling). I plan on a full 7.1 system and thought of using my m60s as front speakers. Can they handle this size room? How much improvement can I see with the m80s.
I need to move my m60s out of the family room (wife) so I either use them or sell and get the m80s. If I have to sell, any idea where or how?
Thanks!

The M60s can handle that room no problem.
The M80s definately sound better in a/b comparisons. There is more detail across the spectrum. I walked into an audition at Axiom believing the M60s would be enough, and walked away with M80s.
Will this be primarily HT or music and HT? A decent sub will cover the low end a little better than the M80s so in an HT setup, you have the bass covered either way.
You can sell local through something like Craigslist, through audiogone, or trade directly with Axiom thought their upgrade program.

interesting.
do you have any details about the Axiom upgrade program? I have had my m60s about 2 years. I have looked all over the website and did not see any info.
Thanks,

Sot, considering the messiness sometimes involved in a personal sale, you might at least consider the Axiom trade-up program first.

My HT/Rec room is 900 Sq Ft, much bigger than yours. I had m60's down there for 3 years, love them, and miss them a lot. I currently have 80's. Yes they are a bit better overall, and the extra power handling, most people would never play it that loud to notice a difference.

Make sure that, if you decide to upgrade to teh M80s, your receiver can handle the extra power.
From a volume/loudness perspective, I think you'd be hard pressed to max your M60s out in a room that size. Gains realized from a trade-up would probably be in terms of quality, as opposed to max power in the room.

Good point Capn, what receiver are you using and how well will it drive a 4ohm speaker?

Sot, I have the same dilemma as well with a similar sized rec room. My plan is to keep the M60's, VP100 and add QS8's and a EP350 for a home theater setup. Then I will add M80's for a dedicated 2 channel setup for my upstairs living area.

I found the 80s give better detail/bass, more open, at lower volumes, other than that the 2 sound reasonably similar at higher SPL.

the 2 sound reasonably similar at higher SPL. I keep seeing you post this. I was listening at 75-90 db (it got louder as the day progressed) and heard definite differences between the two beyond the bass. Don't know if the bottom end of that range qualifies as quieter or not.
