While I admit that my last receiver was 18 years old and only had a volume control that went from 1 - 10, I could use some feedback on what volume levels you are listening to movies on the 45TX. I have had the 45TX for about 3 months now and love it.
The MCACC has been run several times, and yet I find that I am listening to most movies/TV programs with volume levels between -15 to -5. Is this normal for a receiver whose volume range is -80 to +12?

Yes, Mark, when we seriously watch movies, we usually set the volume knob at between -10dB to -5dB. The MCACC does calibrate the receiver's own volume knob as well, so that the dB scale on it directly reflects the Dolby/THX "reference" level. I think that -10dB from Reference is nothing abnormal in home environment, although it is fairly loud.

Mark,
I think you are just SO happy with your Axiom setup, that you have been listening at extremely high levels, and have started losing your hearing. Therefore, you have had to increase your "normal" volumes.

-5? Wow, that's loud. I can't even get it past -15 w/o my wife coming in from the back bedroom complaining...

Oh no, oldskoolboarder! When my wife (or any other family member) is already in bed, I would never set the volume above -25dB or so. That's what I meant by "seriouly watch" above.
Yes, -5dB is VERY loud. But it is not THAT loud so it permanently injures your ears... Remember, at your local cinema theater, you are listening to the soundtrack at 0dB reference by definition.

I just discovered one thing that wasn't helping my sound levels - about a month ago we lost power - I re-ran MCACC and thought all was well. However, my DVD player uses a coax digital connection that is different connection than the receiver's default connection. So for a month I have not been playing DVDs in Dolby Digital - set this up tonight and there is a world of difference. Just thought I would pass this along.
