Anyone ever listened to Rel subs? I heard one this weekend and was really wowed. I know Hsu and SVS are the bang-for-your-buck kings, but how do they stand up to the REALLY big boys? I've never heard Hsu's or SVS's really high end subs.

(I don't like tube subs...bleck...yucky.)

Rel sub is also regarded highly. They are a bit more but they equally can compete with the SVS and HSU subs. The last one I saw was a monster. That one defintely MOVEEEEDDDDDDD a lot of air...that even moved that thing in the back of your mouth...forgot what it called...it was shaking it...totally weird feeling. I thought the roof of the demo room was gonna collapse (maybe the guy had it cranked up).
The one I saw was a transmission line design which goes deeper and lower without port chuff...sub 14hz!!!!.
My PMC DB1's are transmission line speakers. They are smaller than a M2Ti but have more bass than my M3Ti.

Not really since it has a purpose (gag reflex) - lol.

Thats why I felt like I was going to puke when he put the subwoofer frequency range thingy from Avia Guide to Home Theater. When it was going from 120hz down to sub 18..15.. I was about to puke around 24..22. I don't know how he held it.

That thing in the back of the mouth is called "uvula" - and it's not responsible for the gag reflex - it really has no specific function.
From now on, you guys can refer all body-parts related questions to me

Wow...this thread certainly got off topic fast.

Anyone have experience with a Rel?

Craig,

Personally, if I were to consider a sub that is substantially pricier than the flagship Hsu/SVS models, I would primarily look for a sealed-box design.

I'm not really considering a Rel, I'm just wondering if anyone else had had the joy of hearing one.

If I ever upgrade my VTF-2, it will more than likely be for another Hsu. He still hasn't finished his mysterious VTF-1.

I was just over at Hsu's shop Wednesday.. Got to meet the doctor, checked out their current line of goods, AND was treated to a little demo time.. (LOTR Cave Troll scene) Fun fun.. Great way to spend yer lunch.. (I work just a few miles from there)
I didn't know to ask about the VRF-1, but did learn they are working on a new TN.. It would have the speaker at the bottom of the stack, instead of the top..
The current model, with the speaker sitting on top is very unnerving.. No protection at all ! But, being only as wide as the speaker, it really would be no prob to lay this tube on its side behind a sofa or the big screen..
And, I must say, the sound was much smoother than any of their box styles.. That long tube and very long port really makes a difference..

LFE ! The rest is just details..
