New M3s

These are my first ever speakers, and as you can see, I still don't have anything to drive them (working on getting an Onkyo 606).

Yup, that's a joke.

I want a home theater receiver so I can run all my console's sound through. Plus I fully intend to complete a 5.1 set at some point. I already have some other speakers I'm going to try using as surrounds, and maybe in a year or so I'll get a VP100 or 150.

As for my 360 overheating -- no problems at this time, mostly because I don't play long marathon sessions... at most I play maybe an hour at a time, generally. If it starts getting warm I'll pull it out a bit which helps. I did get a red-ring on my first system, but got it replaced, and that system wasn't kept in that entertainment center for long.

Where do you plan on buying your speaker wire from? http://www.monoprice.com has excellent prices.

I bought my speaker wire and a bunch of HDMI cables from there before I even got the speakers. I got the HDMI cables color coded for each console \:\)

I've been reading these forums and those at avsforum off and on for a while, so I've seen monoprice come up a LOT.

Thanks though!

I finally got to listen to them!

I took the M3s to my father's house where my interest in building a sound system had driven him to do something similar. He's been prowling ebay collecting speakers from companies whose speakers he'd once dreamed of owning. He's recently gotten a pair of ABS speakers, and he'd been trying for over a month now to give me some fixed up hand-me-downs so I wouldn't waste money on Axiom.

Well, needless to say, the M3s convinced him that Axiom was worth my attention. During our listen, which was short (about 15 minutes) he kept reiterating how surprised he was by the sound. I had to say, I expected them to be quite good, but I was very happy to find my expectations perhaps even exceeded. Mostly because I was worried about the clarity of the M3s in mids and highs compared to the M2s and M22. Since I have no frame of reference beyond my dad's speakers and the Aiwa stereo I'm listening to while writing this, I can't say that that's non-existent. What I can say, is that I have absolutely no complaints after a brief listen, and now feel my Aiwa stereo leaves something to be desired.

We only listened to Bachlorette by Björk and the first half of Ghosts I by Nine Inch Nails. I can't wait to dive into a wider variety of music.

To parrot many other posts I've seen here: Thanks axiom, your speakers are exactly what I was looking for, and I expect to return to the store as soon as I can. You have another loyal customer \:\)

Also, thanks to the Axiom community, it's the wealth of feedback from axiom fans that helped me settle on this company and choose the M3s against a variety of worthy speakers.

Glad you liked them and thanks for taking the time to write.
Are these the type ABS speakers you are referring to?

Great! Welcome aboard!
When do you think you'll have something to power them in their natural habitat (your place)?

Typo, apparently it's ADS. I did some digging and I'm pretty sure these are what he got and uses for his stereo:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160289965716&ssPageName=ADME:B:EF:US:1123

He listened to them up against the M3 with one of his on the left channel and one of mine on the right when I wasn't around and only said that his had more bass, which I don't find terribly suprising. If you ask me though, I have a hunch that otherwise, the M3s won.

eK, FYI, if you ever try to compare the ADS to the M3's again, make sure you level match them with an SPL meter. I believe the ADS are 4 or 6 ohm speakers and this will allow them to play louder than the M3's and during a comparison of good quality speakers, usually the louder one is chosen as the better sounding.
