We've bought a new house, and finally it looks like I'll be able to wall-mount my surrounds. The alcove of the rec room with the couch and surround speakers is 15 ft wide and 10 1/2 ft deep. Our sofa (a U-shaped sectional) will likely be about 1-2 feet in front of the back wall, and is 11 feet wide. Ceilings are 7 1/2 feet high.

Where would be the best place to mount the QS4s? Behind the sofa on the back wall? If so, how far apart would I want them? OR do I mount them on the side walls? If so, how high and how far from the back wall? OR do I mount them in the back corners, and if so, how far off the ground?

Any experience/advice is appreciated, because I really only get one crack at the installation.

My first choice would be on the back wall, 5-6 ft high, and 12 ft or so apart from each other. That's quite similar to what I did in my room -- although my room is a bit bigger than your "alcove," the back of my main listening couch is also about 2 feet from the back wall.

Placing them on the side walls, again 5-6 ft high, right on either side of the listening position would also work well. If you have any doubts, do the experiments using a couple of people or ladders to temporarily hold the QS4s.

FHW, with your sofa being so close to the back wall it probably makes very little difference whether you have the QS4s(about 5 feet up)on the side wall a foot or two from the back with the rear tweeters reflecting off the back wall, or on the back wall a foot or two from the corner with the outside tweeters reflecting off the side walls. As sushi suggested, use some sort of temporary setup to try it both ways.
