During a brief day-dreaming session at work I found an answer to my most pressing problem ...... namely what do I want for a retirement gift when I finally leave work early next year.

I had been avoiding that question for days because frankly I just wanted to fade away without a lot of fuss but apparently my fellow co-workers have convinced me that is not an option for me under any conditions.

So I'm going to have a party complete with all the trimmings.

Now back to the gift.

It's obvious, a gift subscription from Axiom would do the trick. It would give me something that I could enjoy for many, many years to come.

Now I know that nothing like that is found on these pages but I fired off an email to Axiom and in less than 24 hours received a friendly reply from Amie letting me know that they can in fact provide a gift certificate. In fact I believe that they will now mention it on their web site.

I'm impressed, first to receive a response so quickly and then to have a "new" request positively addressed. This is the mark of a company that knows the real meaning of customer satisfaction.

Many thanks to Axiom!

That's so cool! I've come to expect nothing but the best from this here company. Staying relatively small definitely has its benifits. There's no bureaucracy to wade through in order to get new ideas adopted.

We're working away busily on this one! Just a poll - what sort of denominations would you like to see? (Okay, we'd all like to see $1,000 denoms, but . . .)

What do you think is reasonable? $25, $50, $100 and so on? Call to place a specific amount (which would work out best if you were doing an office retirement gift, for example).

Also, I was thinking you should have the option of either sending the gift certificate via e-mail or snail mail - or is snail mail too 90s?

I have long wanted to have a wedding registry, too - wouldn't that be fun? Instead of getting dishes you'll never use, you get an entertainment system! Okay - maybe I'm getting ahead of myself.

Any thoughts?

I think denoms of $25/$50/$100 would work fine.

I think a snail mail "receipt" would be cool. Though the gift certificate itself would be electronic. It's nice to have a fancy little official looking piece of paper to hand someone (since it is a gift). But it shouldn't be needed to cash in your award. If it's lost, the owner shouldn't be s.o.l. Much like how an e-ticket is used on an airline.

Wedding Registry - now that's an idea! I'm sure guys everywhere would like that idea. Wives may be a harder sell. Not everyone is as cool as you, Amie.

be sure to include a small box of chocolates like vermont teddybear does. if it went snail mail, you could include the full color catalog which naturally would include all of your products.

Oh, man - the last thing we need around here is to keep chocolates on site! We're chocoholics to a t - boys and girls! Cute idea though - we'll ponder that one.

How high should we go?

I'd think that $500 would be a good top end.

Also, why isn't everyone posting in the show pic thread!!??

we also have restaurants around us that sell gift certificates in the months of october and november with a discount. ie a $50.00 certificate is $45.00, a $100.00 is $90.00. so if you go in increments of $50.00, you too could offer $5.00 off each $50.00 step. their catch is that they cannot be used 'til after Jan 1st, with a two year exp date, which is not legal here in mass.

In addition to the set amounts I think that you should also let people name specific amounts as well. In some cases people might want to even pay for a complete system.

Do you think people would mind calling in to name specific amounts? I can't figure out how to automate that.

If the exact amount is to pay for M80s or M22s, or whatever...the gift certificate could just say "good for one pair of Axiom M80ti floorstanding speakers" or the like. Man, I would probably have a near sexual experience if I opened an envelope with THAT in it!

I think that would be fine. I also like the 25/50/100/500 model, as I know that all I'm likely to get is 25 or 50. ;-) Definitely go with Spiffnme's idea about the receipt, etc.

Wedding registry sounds good, but good luck convincing most of the wives to be. I would have settled for registering at Best Buy (not that they do it as far as I know, but they should) but that didn't go over too well. Although, that may have been partially because they don't do it.

Although, I guess with gift certs I can work my way up to M60's as a gift from her

Call-in custom amounts would probably be a good idea. I know I wouldn't mind if I was going to spend more than $500 on a gift certificate.

Now lets take a vote how many of us guys out there would want a wife that says something like that.

*raising hand!*

I don't think people would mind calling in at all. In fact there are still a lot of people who prefer to deal voice to voice rather than via the 'net.

We have a country-wide hardware store chain up here called "Canadian Tire" (don't ask - their slogan is 'A lot more than tires'). At any rate, they keep a registry and that's become a little trend for his-and-hers wedding showers. But Canadians all wish snowblowers on one another, you see, as a gesture of ultimate good will . . . tee hee!

Ian, on the other hand, couldn't believe that Jaguar didn't have a registry! He thought it would be ideal - I could get my little dishes, he could get a bumper, or a paint job, or a new roof . . .

You must be the other one . I sent an email to Axiom just last week about the potential of gift certificates, and I also got an email from Amie stating that mine was the second email that morning asking about gift certificates, and that they'd explore that option.

I can think of no better stocking stuffers than Axiom gift certificates!

Nope! She runs good just as she is! Seriously, it's a fairly new car, so it doesn't take too much work. He bought it the year Ford took over Jag, so the electronics work but the car still looked like a Jag. Some of the ones the following year looked like a Taurus to me!!

peter, now amie needs to take it one step further. she needs to go over her customer list, and mail out announcements to our significant others. that way, if we receive certificates, we'll really be surprised.

Just noticed the addition of the Gift Certificates on the front page!

Looks like you covered all the options, many thanks to you for providing this service. Yet another reason why this company is tops.

Here's a thought -- and a great way to budget for speakers. Every couple months, buy yourself a $50 Axiom gift certificate. Then when you have enough to buy yourself some speakers, it will feel like you're getting them for free! Yay!

Every once in a while, you could accidentally hit the $100 or $200 link, too.
