mwells, what I ment is, you know how Yamaha's sound. You have used them for logn enough to know that they are not all of a sudden 'bright.'
The low end models, they sure could be. They are for volume sales, and do not get the top parts that their high end lines get.
If you know and like the Yamaha sound, I see no reason to listen to people saying their receicers are 'bright.'
I still have, and love, my RX-V2090.

In reply to:
But what does an electronics company do to make thier components sound "bright"?
Exactly.
They CANNOT do anything there, unless they are willing to insert a filter circuit so that the frequency response is intentionally non-flat. I've never heard of a main-stream electronics brand that actually does this sort of things.

Jimmy,
I didn't take offense, I was only trying to clarify my statement, and also show that I am trying to decide which receiver will be the best for my application. I do like the yamaha brand, but I also like the features on the Denon, and am considering the HK line because of the wonderful feedback that they receive. Positive comments from owners says alot to me.

I think I am getting the HK 325 to use as a temporary option. Temporary as being it will be used as a pre amp as i will be wanting more power in a short bit. The 325 has all the feathures that I want from the 525, just 'weaker' power.
However, the Denon 3803 can be found at a nice price right now as a refurb with warranty.

I have, the h/k 325, bought a refurb unit. powering m22's vp150, qs8's and svs sub. Overall I'm happy with unit, specially for the price. I think the h/k axiom combo sounds great, but then again I haven't heard Axiom speakers on anything else. (recieved both at the same time) One of these days, I'll hook up my old pioneer receiver to see how that sounds with the Axioms.
Here are a couple cons on the h/k minor but still cons to me
you can not dim all the front panel lights.
remote pretty much blows
and no base management for sacd/dvd-a audio. I'm not 100% sure on this but the 525 does have base management for sacd/dvd-a format I believe.
vp150
m22ti's
qs8's
hk avr325
svs 25-31pci @22hz

Let me jump in with my $.02. I demoed the Denon 2803 and H/K 525 at home for a bit with M60s, VP100 (at the time), and M3s (at the time). The Denon was more user friendly, had a better remote, separate A/B front speaker outputs, more optical connections, and I believe higher frequency video switching. The sound on the Denon was good, clean, thin, pick your adjective.
The H/K had much more punch even rated at 20 watts less per channel. The sound was fuller and richer and made a significant difference when watching movies. The bass management is phenomenal, custom settings for every input/surround mode combination if you want. Auto configuration, but I think calibration with an SPL meter is the way to go. The remote sucks plain and simple.
The Denon certainly had more bells and whistles and the H/K just seemed to kick more butt. For fun I cranked both in 5 channel stereo and the Denon just didn't have enough in the tank, the H/K didn't seem to flinch. I've heard that Denon's service and support is non-existant and that H/K's (while they can have quality issues) is quite good.

Can anyone with an H/K 525 and DVD-A/SACD comment on whether it has bass management? Just to hijack the thread, I don't really understand what the problem is with that anyway. Doesn't the LFE channel just get fed to the sub?
