I've been reviewing a number of Av receivers, NAD, HK, Marantz, Denon etc. Is it more important to have a receiver have component video inputs or be HDTV compatible or both?

Thanks

Well, virtually all of the latest crop of receivers from any brands have component-video switching that is compatible with HDTV bandwidth of ~40MHz (unless you are looking at very bottom-end models). Many mid-priced models have only two component inputs and one component output. More expensive models have three or four component inputs. Some receivers (e.g., Denon 3803 and Yamaha RX-V2400) features video up/down conversions between component and S-video/composite signals, which are nifty for some people. Another consideration is DVI-video switching, but very few receivers (including the new flagship model of Sony ES) have it at this time.

Thanks for the prompt response.

When reviewing Sound & Visions 2004 Buyers guide, some receivers HK 630, Marantz SR9300, Denon 4802R list not only do the have the component inputs, but also say they are HDTV compatible. The Nad T773 has component inputs, but lists that this unit as well as other NAD products are not HDTV compatible. I'm planning on getting a 42-50" plasma in the future and want to make sure I can take advantage of all the latest and greatest HDTV has to offer

According to NAD's own web site, their component switching is clearly described as HDTV-compatible. I cannot imagine any main-stream receiver manufacturers would make an HDTV-incompatible product at this time.

Thats what I thought. It must either be a typo or the magazine needs to get their info straight.
