Well, the camera already being underwater to film his grab would give the fake argument some weight, but wasn't this guy on Letterman recently?

I don't know Charles, but that guy jumped out of a boat and onto an already caught and released very tired swordfish and a buddy filmed and edited it, no two ways about it. Another one shows a guy just off of the beach with a 'hand caught' swordy, dang fish looks almost dead in that one. A fresh swordfish would have had those men dragged to Cuba from Miami in real life.

I know he didn't actually 'land' the fish but since the conversation went that way I'll just add that if you have ever tangled with a swordfish on a fishing line, there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY any human, not even in their pinnacle of physical fitness, would have the strength and especially the stamina to defeat a healthy swordfish in a battle of one on one, physical willpower.

I had the advantage of good gear and an experienced boat pilot to help me play the one swordfish I ever got hooked up with and I was still defeated. The line broke but I can't blame the line. I was inexperienced but mostly the fish just literally tired me out until I could no longer react quick enough to maintain control. I gained a great respect for this animals strength and tenacity that day.

Edited to add: And oh ya, there is that breathing underwater thing.

That's funny. I have landed a few marlin (don't know that that was a sword fish?) after hours of fighting and Murph is right - not a chance of that happening. Marlin eat small tuna and other torpedo with fins - real fast swimmers. They routinely launch their bodies far out of the water and can dance on top the water with their tails. That baby marlin he had - if not recently landed and being released - would have stabbed him with his dorsal find upon landing, and then drug his ass to the abyss.
Just ask the families of those men that have gotten their hands tangled in the leader when landing a marlin and were pulled to their deaths.

Nope, you are right Zimm ... that is indeed a little marlin. I shouldn't have, but I was generalizing whenever I called it a swordfish. I'd like to see that guy attempt to ride mom or pop marlin like that, Abyss would have been his new last name.

If swimming with a marlin was such fun, they could not sell these, designed to cut the leader when you are attached for the ride of your life...straight down!

I have had 12-16 inch Mackerel tow my 19 foot sea kayak around. I know I could out wrestle one but certainly they are strong little guys.

He jumped from the chopter with glasses on, entered the water without them on.

I've caught a couple Striped Marlin. I'm with Rick. No friggin way anyone could wrestle one, let alone actually jump into the water and grab one. They are incredibly powerful and fast.

I used to spear fish. I had a 200 pound grouper pull me around for twenty minutes once. It's difficult to understand how powerful these big fish are till you get up close and personal. I was totally humbled by a dolphin when I did a tourist thing and swam with them in Mexico a few years back. That creature was the most powerful thing I’ve ever been around.

And not one single person asked how I train these mackerel to sled dog my kayak? You guys are slipping.

Alright, this crazy fish story is actually true - although it lacks the helicopters or video. The guy is a friend of a friend, and the account was verified in many ways.

I just read that on one of the fishing forums I go to, evidently those particular fellas are some of the best and very well respected free dive spear fishermen around.

Interesting story.

Speaking of diving, there was a young fellow diving off of Stuart, Fl a couple of months back who had just surfaced and was ran over by large center console boat that ran right through their marked dive area, cut off both of the man's legs. The boat was operated and owned by a well known emergency room physician who, after knowingly ran over the diver high tailed it back to dock where he had his attorney waiting ... never stopped or slowed down to check on the diver. It's just baffling and amazing to me that someone could do that.

The diver is a forum member on the following site, he's really an astounding individual. You can read some of his post later in the following thread after the accident ... Rob Murphy.

I hope they locked the physician away for doing that...you'd think of all the people in the world, he should be the one to help this poor guy.

That fellow(Rob) has an incredibly positive attitude which will certainly help him through this tragedy. A few years ago, a similar tragedy happened on Lake Simcoe where a couple of divers were exploring in Cooks Bay, using clearly marked diving flags, and a boat went through the area killing one of them. I've seen a lot of near misses and lack of respect in my few years of boating.

I recall an incident on Lake of Bays when I was around 10 yrs old, where there was a boat near shore, trying to get a waterskier up and going. As he had his head turned watching the skier (he had no spotter) he wasn't watching where he was going which happened to be directly at a floating dock with a couple of young girls on it. People on the shore as well as the girls screaming on the dock alerted the genius where he was headed and thankfully rammed the throttle into reverse as he barely bumped the dock...both of the girls had jumped off of the dock by that time and were shaken but fine. Obviously, this could have ended in catastrophy but didn't, thank God.

Btw, this happened in one of the south bays of Lake of Bays, this is the same chain of lakes that Axiom faces from the north shore.

I can't stop laughing, this is wrong on so many levels. The best part as you pointed out is the exploding shark at the end.

You also gotta love the suspense music. Really makes seem "real"

Who the hell is flying the helicopter as Robin so skillfully makes his way down the latter? Was he scared to scratch his tights or something, I mean what kind of action hero moves like that?

And to think whenever I was nine years old my one goal in life was to rush home in time from school to watch that show ... every single day it aired.

YIKES!
