Hello Folks, newest member to the axiom community. Just ordered M60's, QS8's, VP 150 and EP-500 last week from the factory outlet.
I am all excited and cant wait for the speakers to arrive.
Never had the Music system before, house is Pre-wired for the system. Couple of questions for the veterans on this forum.
Can you please recommend a good reciever to go with, i dont have too much in my budget since i spent it all on my speakers:)
Also i have the open Co-axial cable at both ends for my Sub Woofer, how do i add the RCA plug on both sides.
Are banana plugs recommended for all the speakers

Thanks

Welcome and congratulations, raoshree! For the receiver, look for one with the features you want as the M60s are an easy speaker to drive. Are you interested in Blu-ray? Maybe looking for a receiver with HDMI inputs will be good.

Banana plugs are fine, they are especially handy if you plan on switching things around and plugging and unplugging often. I mostly use bananas just because they are easy. You won't notice a difference in any kind of connection you make, whether it be banana, spade, or bare wire. The main thing is you WON'T be able to use bananas on the QS8s if you use the supplied bracket. They are too close to the wall and you will have to use bare or spades.

Welcome raoshree!

I remember about 5 years ago when I got my first Axiom system, pretty much the same as your, except an EP350 (v1). It was my first decent speaker setup. I now have some different subs, and the M80's, but your setup will be awesome.

One question, you say your house is prewired. Placement for best sound is key, where do you have your left/right "surround" wires run and left/right main speakers? I assume your only going with 5.1 for now. The Qs8's will perform best if they are 2-3ft or higher above ear level when seated. Again, these would go to the sides of your listeners for 5.1, not behind that is for 7.1.

The Axiom speakers are pretty efficient and easy to drive, so most decent brandname receivers will do just fine. I would say go with Denon, HK, Yamaha, Onkyo, Sherwood Newcastle (Axiom sells). I don't like Sony receivers, but they would work as well. It depends on what bells and whistles you want. What is your budget for a receiver? If you order online, make sure your going with an "authorized" etailer for that brand. I purchased my Denon from 6ave.com

Placement of a subwoofer is also important to find the best sound in "your" room, all rooms are different. Are you saying they already ran a line for a sub location? If so, you need to leave some slack so you can move the sub a few feet left/right of the location to get the best results. It is best to have multiple locations run for coax, as you never know where the sub will end up until you do some testing for best performance.

That is one mistake I made when having my room prewired...

Hello sirquack,

Thanks for the response.
They did a really bad job on the Pre-wiring. My center and 2 front mains are just above my TV on the Ceiling so i will not use those wiring. For the sub its on the right corner again as you mentioned might or might not use that because after listening i might have to change the location. Where as for the surrounds its just above the couch 5ft on the ceiling. Yes i am planning on 5.1 for now.

They sure did mess up the wiring!

Thats a nice system! I had perma-grin for the first 8 months after picking mine up.

I'm not sure about this? There must be some kind of adaptors available, but is coax okay to use for a sub? Anyone?

For what it's worth, my new house was wired for 7.1 and I ended up not using ANY of the wiring, even though I picked all the locations. By the time the house was built I had kinda changed my mind ;\)

Home Depot has a nice cheap jacketed 12 ga wire (2 wires in a green jacket) that lies flat on the floor and seems to blend into the surroundings.

Anyways, congrats on the new system. You're going to enjoy it.

If I had to guess I would say that Denons are the most popular receiver on this forum, but as Randy (Sirquack) says pretty much any receiver will work well with the M60s. I have a Harman Kardon because the Denon manuals always raise my blood pressure too high, but as long as you burn the manual the receivers are first rate.
