The Denon 3310 should have the capability to pass thru the HDMI signal while in standby mode (my Denon 1909 does). This way the TV video and audio come thru without having to power on the AVR. Check for a setting for 'HDMI control' or something along those lines. Otherwise hook up the STB via component and analog audio to the TV. IIRC, the AVR needs to be on 'standby' and not 'off' for HDMI passthrough. A technicality, but it does make a difference.

That's cool that the Denon has that feature. I can set my Pioneer to "Through", but it doesn't happen automatically when I turn it off.
Though I wonder how the components connected to it, will like the disappearance of some of the supported sound formats, and the change of the connected device name in the EDID. I guess most should renegotiate, but if you have any manual setting you may lose sound.

Here's a neat setup guide for Denon users. You should be able to pass video and audio through your receiver while in standby mode. Batpigs Denon-To-English Dictionary

I spoke to Denon they told me to turn On the hdmi control in the setup menue under hdmi settings
So I put the reciever in standby mode and I got distorted flashes of video on for a few seconds then off for a few seconds almost like the signal was week
So now what I guess I will call denon

Just wanted to let you know that it was the hdmi cable (that the cable company provided) was the cause of the problem I guess it was not a 1.3a cable
Finaly hooked up the center channel & rear speakers and I am in the process of learning the reciever setup

I'm glad it turned out to be something simple like that.

Yeah, sometimes we get carried away and don't mention to start with the simple things to check first.
