There was a great episode of "The Bernie Mac Show" about Costco.

+1 on the "don't go hungry" advice.

Mike - If you are seriously considering these speakers, it may be worth paying Audiogon the $19.95 for a 30 day subscription to their Blue Book prices. This allows you to see what sales prices have been reached through Audiogon on the specific models that you are looking at. I did notice that there was sales information on at least some of the models that you are looking at. I think that $0.50 on the dollar may be too much to offer given the circumstances. I have purchased used equipment through Audiogon but have not used the Blue Book before.

It might be reasonable to assume that the owner did not pay "list price" for these speakers as well. Any offer made should not necessarily be based as a percentage of the "list price". We've all seen articles that show us lists prices for speakers, like $8000 pr(brand X) ect, yet a quick search on the 'net tells us the selling price(new) for brand X is between $5-6000.

Half of communication is listening. You can't listen with your mouth.

Stereophile had a write up of the Dali Helicon 400 Mk 2 speakers in their March 2008 issue. They were described as "open, airy and spacious". Perhaps you can find a copy and read the review.

Thanks for the tips and thoughts guys. I have came to my senses and decided to pass on this expenditure. I have no business spending this kind of money on stuff I don’t need when I have a kid to put through college in a couple years.

I've seen the Blue Book pricing (a friend subscribes) on some used models.
It is indeed a handy tool to get an idea of what certain brands are reselling in cost. Still, 10-15k for a speaker set is rather pricey. Too much name association and not enough performance return.

At least if they were huge
or funky looking monstrosities to add some amount of style worthy of an architectural pricing, then maybe.

I can certainly understand that line of reasoning.

Chesseroo: Your foremost purveyor of funky-looking monstrosities since 2002.

I just love it how you help illustrate "to the extreme". Made my day! Thanks!

Whoa.

After viewing the speakers in the Chess's first photo I'm darn near inclined to suggest that CatBrat may very well need a pair of M80s in his 1200 cu. ft. room. ... get some big azz amplifiers also, regardless of what John tells you.
