Just curious if any of you use Skype? We use it often so the kids can talk to Grandma and Grandpa. Also, my kid likes to call me from his PSP now and then from his room. Maybe some of you chat with your Axiom buddies to save the phone bill or cell minutes, since it is free?

I've used it in the past, but I have a flat-rate phone package that includes long distance, so it saves me no money. Since it's considered rude to multitask while on the phone, I'm not a big phone talker.

I use a "phone card".... 16 hrs for $5 anywhere in N. America with no connection fee(offshore a small con fee applies). I laugh everytime a phone company offers me the "best deal" on the phone.

I was introduced to SKYPE when my daughter studied in Seville Spain for a semester. It was not unusual for her to be up at 3:00 am local time and we could talk despite the time difference. The image was often questionable but the audio was acceptable. For communication such as this, you can not beat it. Whole different culture - My daughter and her roomate purchased a type of poor man's internet connection that they had to plug in. Electricity is much more precious over there - they had to sneak their connection from the Senora that they were living with to have access. The alternative was some of the cafes or Tapas Bars that offered WIFI - which were few.

I use Skype, more useful with Skype Out so I can dial real numbers. I've used the iPhone version in the Philippines via Wifi to call the US.
I use the Mac client for phone calls w/ Israel once in a while.

I use skype for video chats with my family when I'm staying in hotels, where iChat AV doesn't generally work.

Make video calls with it all the time to family (sister, nieces, nephew & his kids, brother) and video call Ray nearly every day for business.

I have not used the pay service of Skype but as an online gamer I've been using it since it's conception to chat with friends all over the place while we play Everquest II or the MORPG flavor of the day. Not only is it essential for good cooperative game play but it has been great to keep me in very close touch with friends who have moved away. The audio quality is second to none if everyone has good Internet connections.
I also use it with a web cam to chat with friends and relatives outside of gaming from time to time. I haven't used the 'call out' to land line features as I work for a phone company so I get pretty good rates anyways, plus it would be a bit taboo.
With great power comes Awesome irresponsibility.

Adrian, where do you get the phone card?

Cam, my long distance calling cards are by "Licence", I usually buy them at my local Hasty Market but they should be available at other locales as well. No connection fee in N. Amer. but a $5 card must be used up in 6 wks from activation($10 card is longer).
