I have a pair of M80ti’s and was just wondering if it’s normal to hear a slight difference between them when playing white noise. I’ve had two other people listen to the speakers and one told me that one sounds louder, and the other person said it just sounds “different”, I personally think that one sounds little bit “lower”. I’ve put the speakers right next to each other and used my Denon 3803 channel balance white noise and also Avia, and swapped between the two. I thought it may be the cables or receiver putting out a different signal, so I swapped the cables, and still found one to be a bit “lower”. I really don’t think that you can tell when music or movies are playing, but just with the reference tests.

It only bothers me because I just both these speakers and I figure I'm going to be using them for life.

BTW: I'm using 10ft of 12 gauge

It's completely normal. Remember that the sound you hear from a speaker is the sum of both the direct and reflected sound waves coming from the speaker. The speaker's position in the room is a huge factor in how the speaker will sound.

If you think it's more than just the position that's affecting the speaker's sound, try switching the left and right speakers and testing again.

I actually did two things. First was to put the speakers right next to each other to minimize room effects on the test, still I could hear the difference. The other thing was to swap the cables between them, to see if it was the cable or the amp that was making the difference. The same speaker "sounded" different.

thats kina strange. perhaps one of the drivers isint working, or a defect in the xover. if you bought b stock there might be a possiblity one of them was returned after the previous owner didnt like them and maybe installed those resistors on the tweeters. and if only one speaker had that done, they would sound different.

It's always a good idea to call Axiom when stuff like this happens. They're very helpful from everything I've read on the boards. I second the bit about checking that all the drivers are working.

That's possible. I took off the grill and tried to listen really carefully, going over each speaker. For some reason, I think that the third speaker down from the top is softer on one then another.

How do you check to see if the drivers are working?

put your hand on the drivers. see if they feel the same. if you can feel one driver working more then the other (must be same size driver though) chances are something is up.
try doing an SPL check with a test tone disk with each speaker if you are still wondering if the speaker is off. to do this unplug one speaker and read the test tone. if you suspect its the bottom driver, then probably the low test tones might be off.

you could do it that way. GENTLY put your finger on the black rubber surround. Or you just put your ear up to each driver, might help if you had a book or something to cover up the other mids/tweets when your listening to one.
